The tailgate window on my Freelander will not lower either by operating the internal control switch operating the tailgate door open switch or by pressing the remote control unlock switch for 2 seconds. I therefore cannot open the rear tailgate. I have recently been away for 2 months and during this time the vehicle battery totally discharged the battery has now been recharged and appears to be holding charge. The 20 amp fuse for the rear tailgate window is intact and I have tried with a new fuse fitted. I have replaced the battery in the alarm / lock / unlock remote control. My vehicle manual states that I may need to recalibrate the alarm system ( By pressing the unlock / lock button on the remote five times in quick succession which I have tried) and that the tailgate window may need calibrating. I would be grateful if you could enlighten me on any further actions I could take before seeking assistance from a dealer mechanic.

The L/R Handbook explains what needs to be done if and when the battery is replaced or disconnected/reconnected. From what you have said, it seems that you need to try the recalibration as per refitting the battery.

Just curious if you resolved the tailgate issue with your Freelander? I just discovered the same problem with my 2002 Freelander.

first with the door closed you can still get to the nuts that hold the tailgate switch/handle remove the cover from the inside there is 8 clips also 4 screws on rhs of door!.once you have the complete tailgate cluster off remove the 2 screws and 2 springs holding the handle microswitch, then use a small screw driver or something small to push the metal locating pin of the handswitch then use some spray greece or WD40 on the microswitch which is probable just stuck in,try get it switching by push it manually a few times this should fix the problem!.that is asuming that the actual door lock is still working fine!.hope this helps!.Good luck!.

Why dome lights with fade do not work when doors are opened or closed?

All of the items you listed are controlled by the Central Control Unit (AKA body control module) which is located under the right side of the dash behind the glove box.

The CCU has several battery voltage inputs which should be checked:

Fuse #8 (15 Amp), (Hot in RUN or START) and Fuse #15 (20 Amp) (HOT AT ALL TIMES) in passenger compartment fuse block.
Fuse #10 (10 Amp) (HOT AT ALL TIMES) in the engine compartment fuse block, via the inertia switch located ay the left rear side of the engine compartment.

Note: the inertia switch supplies power to pin #18 (BLUE/GREEN wire) at the CCU connector C0428. If there is battery voltage at this pin, the inertia switch is OK.

When you check your fuses, make sure they have power when they are supposed to have power. I have had many people simply LOOK at the fuses and tell me they are OK only to find out that the fuse has no power even though it is not blown. (possible connector or wiring problem to the fuse itself).

If this information is not enough to locate the problem, you will need a scan tool that is capable of two-way communication with your onboard computer network to continue diagnosis.

My rear window won't operate. Can I manually lower the window? The dash switch nor the outside tailgate switch will operate the window. No blown fuse. What could be the problem?

Have had a few of these broncos, the rear window motor burns out on those pretty frequently. Check to see if you have power to the motor before replacing it but if your fuse is good and its not working then pretty sure it is the motor. There isn't a way to manually crank the window up but you can open the tailgate up to get to the internal components and disconnect the regulator from the glass then you can manually put the glass up and use a wedge of wood to hold the glass up. The proper fix is to replace the window motor.

Hi i have a land rover freelander 00.back door wont open or tailgate windoe wont go down, the rest of the doors work. help

try a hard restart, if that doesnt work then you need a new rear window motor. for the hard restart all you have to do is disconnect the battery cables and touch the positive and negative together for about 8 seconds. if that fails then a new motor it is.

'94 4runner 4dr. Inop. r/rear window & rt. frt. window will go down not up.

There is a saftey built into the tailgate that will interupt the ground to the switch in the center console with the tailgate open. This keeps the operator from trying to roll the window up with the tailgate open. If you have no ground to the rear window switch it is most likely the tailgate safety switch. If it is like my '88 it is built into the drvers side tailgate latch.
