The rear air in the back behind the left panel is making a poping noise. Is there any way you can tell me what that would be so that I can just buy the part and do it myself. It pops when I turn the rear air up.

If you open the back door on the van, to the left in the 1998 van there is a panel with the air compressor behind it. there is a blower motor for the rear of the van vent system behind that compressor panel. in the 1998 van there is a clip that plugs in and can become loose causing the blower to not come on.
totally clean out your rear end, taking back cover off and spray with cleaner and air hose. reinstall with new gasket glue and add new oil, but put in 2 bottles of anti slip differential oil, then top with gear oil. make several figure 8 's til rear end fully distributes oil thru out rear end. if rear end is dirty you may have to repeat this action after5000 km. diff slip oil can be purchased at dealer
no....This is the rear A/C & heater actuator blend door malf/broken. This is very common on expeditions and I encountered the same issue in my 2006 expy. This door switches from hot to cold vents, once stuck only hot air will blow. Also, is there any thumping or tapping noises from the right rear panel (this is where the rear a/c unit is)???
Try this article. I have the same problem and I think it is the vacuum motor that controls the door for changing from hot/cold in the rear heater box (located inside behind the L rear wheel)
The problem is the rear thermostatic expansion valve (TXV).
It is behind the left rear quarter trim panel. You can pull the panel back to access the valve to make sure that that is the noise. If so you will nedd to have AC system evacuated and replace valve and recharge the system. The part number is YF2Z-19849-AA.
there is no separate pump for the rear a/c. front & rear operate from the same a/c compressor in the engine cmpartment.
There may be a blower motor back there.
I had the same problem and i just took off the cup holder and the tray thats on the back were the thumoing came from and took off that part that was making the noise and my rear ac started working again that part was just for the rear ac control but you can still turn it on from the front!
