Leaving your key in the on position will kill your battery. You need to get a boost or have your battery charged and maybe even have it load tested to see what condition it is in.

No ---by leaving the key in the "on/run" position you have effectively left the ignition on and that has flattened the battery and possibly burnt out the coil/s and ignition module. Have the battery recharged and reset the CPU using a code reader and go from there . If you have no spark run the fault codes and if it says coil/s and or ignition module then you know what has happened
Very interesting site here.. regarding your problem. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/ Another thought.. even though you charged the battery, it's not at all uncommon for a car battery to be very damaged by fully discharging. Especially if not new-ish. One or more cells in it may be bad causing the overall voltage to be under normal. This alone can cause the problem you have. I would try jumping it with another car or test the battery to see if it's got at least 12.7 to 12.9 volts when sitting doing nothing. Good luck.
When you say it won't start you mean it won't crank, right ?
If you have a duralast starter from auto zone, that may be the problem. Aftermarket brand starters and alternators can be lemons sometimes. A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter with the key in the on and start positions. Also check the ground connections. Its possible the starter is not getting full battery voltage for some reason.
Check fuel pressure at the injector rail. If good, suspect crankshaft position sensor--when it fails to start, check for sparks by pulling an ignition wire off the coils and holding it close to the coil with an insulated tool while someone cranks the engine. If no sparks, replace the sensor.
This happened to to me with my ranger. I went and bought in ignition and a junk yard and no problems after that. That way your not out of a lot of money.
ricks63toy, I believe that Ford still uses what is called an inertia switch even in the hybrids. This switch will shut off in the event of an accident shutting off the fuel pump. This is a safety feature built into the vehicle. Seeing that this is a newer vehicle I trust that you still have the manual. If not, the switches are usually located in the trunk. Look on the side walls of the trunk and see if you can locate it. It is usually marked by a sticker. When you find the switch, push the red button down until you hear a click. This will reset the switch and allow power back to your fuel pump. Good luck with this.
This is a prtty uncommon problem. You should have the spark and fuel pressure checked when the engine will not start to see what system is shutting down. Sometime fuel pumps that are failing can shut down and then not allow the engine to restart until it cools down. By checking the spark, and fuel pressure this will tell you which way to go to try to figure out why it wont start after dying.
Try moving the gear selector to neutral . If it starts then the transmission range switch (park neutral position switch ) That is if i'am under standing you correctly . When turning the key to the start position nothing happens ?
