My key is stuck in the ignition with the car running and i cant cut the car off

The stuck in park is easy disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the selector red by two notches (by hand) this will place the transmission in neutral if there is resistance chock the wheels release the handbrake and rock the car ( back and forward to take load off the parking parking pawl which is stuck) no electrics is because of the ignition position remove the ignition switch from the column this isolates from the ignition lock and manually move the slide until the engine starts (make sure the hoot & hand brake are applied in case you ******* up the selector job and left it in gear. once the engine starts reconnect the transmission linkage. restart the engine and run the selector through the gears if all is OK.either cut the old ignition lock off the steering column and replace or get a locksmith to remove the key and then re-cut a new key from the spare or from the manufacturers code. all done

Suggest disconecting the battery. Then you can work on the problem. it is not clear if the issue is the key stuck in the start position in the iginition switch or if the starter motor is stuck (running) after the car starts. If it the starter motor is running... Time for a new starter. If it is the ignition switch, try
pushing the key in and turning back off. Still stuck? Try pulling pn the key and turning off. Either way, if it is the key, yime for a new ignition switch.

Do you mean the car is running, or it's stuck on accessories? Does the key shut off one notch, or not at all. If it does turn off one notch, does it turn on again easily just not off?. Sounds like your key is worn, ignition is worn , or your car is not locking in park properly. Is this something new, or has it been stiff moving lately? First I'd try pushing gear shift into park firmly, even putting it back into drive ,then into park again. If that doesnt work, try wiggling the steering wheel as you try to turn the key off. If that doesnt work, try pushing in and out on the key as you are trying to pull it back and out. Let me know how this works and if it doesn't work, we can try some other methods. When you do get it out, take your car permit into a pontiac dealership, and they can cut you a new key by the VIN number. Don't get a key cut from the key you have cause it's worn out and will only make another bad key. The dealer has the code they need to cut it the way it was when it was new. Let me know how you make out. If the key is stuck on the acc position and all the accessories are still on, disconnect your battery so you don't drain it. Let me know.

try to step on the brakes and put the car fully in park..take the key out and retry it..

ignition lock cylinder. change the ignition lock cylinder. it controls the positions of the ignition switch, which control whether or not the engine starts or stops.

was the key stuck in the ignition before you change the battery? Is it the right key or it a fresh cut key

TRY THIS IT MAY OR MAY NOT HELP.PUT KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH TURN IT TO ON POSITION WITH THE ENGINE OFF.LEAVE KEY ON POSITION THE IMMOBILIZER WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATES FLASHES.IF WARNING LAMP TURNS OFF IN 30 SECONDS TRY CRANKING CAR.SEE IF IT RUNS WITH OUT CUTTING OFF IF SO.THE AUDI DEALERSHIP HAS TO REPROGRAM THE NEW IGNITION KEY. WHILE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE ON POSITION AND THE WARNING LAMP DONT STOP BLINKING THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO REPROGRAM KEY TO THE IGNITION SWITCH AND IMMOBILIZER.

had a few questions about this on this model and i honestly cant remember the outcome ,what i would do is cut the feed wire to the switch and run another from the power on side of the ignition switch so when key is turned off this isolates the power .

OK first thing- Car has to be in park to pull the key from the ingnition. if it is and you still cant pull it, rock the wheel back and forth alittle (sometimes the columb lock doesnt lock properly and you cant release the key until it locks, rocking the wheel usually fixes this problem). and the last possibility is that the tumblers in your ignition have broken, when this happens you cant pull the key from the ignition because you cant turn the key back to the off possition all the way. when this happens you don't want to pull the key because you risk not being able to put it back in the ignition later and are forced to replace the ignition so you can drive your car. However if the tumblers are indeed broken you will have to replace the ignition anyway, atleast by leaving the key in it you can still drive the car until its replaced
