I have a 2000 discovery land rover. Last night a green S light that has a circle around it with lines going around the circle makes it look like a sun. This light doesn't flash. What does this light mean and is it a major problem?

This light is when you select sport mode...to deactivate it just look at the gear selector stick behind and you'll see mode button. simply press on it gently and this light will go off. this is to use sport mode only. no harm to the vehicle at all as it's a facility can be used when needed

2000 Land Rover Discovery 2 hard to start during this winter season

Aside from building a garage or installing an engine block heater I have used this trick in the past on my 98 RR HSE. It may work for you if the starting issue is simply temperature related. Placing a shop-light or shielded work light underneath your block at night will produce just enough heat in many cases to overcome the slow starting problem.
Other possibilities may be under powered/weak battery. The rovers are known for high cranking amp demand and a weak or mismatched battery could certainly cause this problem. On the outside chance that it may be fuel delivery related you might try priming your fuel injection prior to cranking. Do this by turning key to position 2 (or last position before crank) wait til all the bells and whistles stop usually about 3-5 seconds, and repeat a couple times. If this is helpful, the bad news is it may be indicative of mechanical issues on the horizon.
****SAFETY NOTE***** PAY ATTENTION TO LIGHT PLACEMENT MAKING SURE NOT TO PUT IT IN PATH OF OIL LEAKS.
Hope this helps.

The steering damper on my 1997 land rover discovery is broken. the replacement part is on back order. can i drive it until the part arrives?

It certainly can be driven, but when going over bumps, the steering wheel will jump around in your hand a bit. I would advise not replacing with a factory OEM damper as companies like ARB make a much heavier dirty model and will last and work a lot better

Warning lights on land rover dicovery 1993

A circle with lines around it - depends where it is -
If its a top left light, then it should be a circle with an exclamation mark in the middle, and two lines running part way round the outside (1 to 5pm and 7 - 11pm). Thats the handbrake and brake fluid light which comes on for about 3 seconds when you start the engine ... if it comes on at any other time - seek help.
If its top centre, and has ABS in the middle, then its the anti lock braking light. Similar to above, lights up for a few seconds at start.

Muffler with lines coming off it - are they pointing outwards from the circle, (with a thermometer in the middle = transmission oil temperature guage), or are they on the left and all parallel (which would be main beam indicator, which lights up blue when on)
