I need to know how to reset my change oil light on my 2001 Grand Am SE. I just recently bought this and changed the oil in it and now I need to reset the light, but I don't have a owners manual. Can anyone help me with this?

Hello, here is the instructions on how to reset the light

When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3000 miles (5000 km) since last oil change.
To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:

  1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
  2. Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.
  4. Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE OIL lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

How do i reset the oil change light? 99 grand am se 6cyl

That light should reset itself after you changed the oil .If you have changed the oil and it doesn't reset ,try disconnecting the batter for about 5 mins. check your milage, see how many miles you normally drive before that light normally comes on. That is so, if that light dosen't come on ,you will know its time to change the oil. If that light doesn't come on at the right amount of miles, have your oil changed at the dealer and ask them to check the oil change warning light .If they find nothing wrong ,no charge . This warning light is fairly new ,in the old days people just guessed ,its about time to change the oil !

My change oil light never goes off even though I had it changed and now my service vehicle soon light is on even though its been running fine

The change oil light needs to be reset after each oil change...some shops are not knowledgeable on how to do this...Your owners manual will instruct you how to reset the oil change light...The service engine soon is a catch all for low fluids and other needs...Be sure to check your oil level again...to clear the service engine soon light, you can disconnect either battery cable for 15 minutes then reconnect...if the service engine stays on...then you need to have your Grand Am checked...Auto Zone does a free diagnostic of check engine light codes...:)

2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.

How to reset the change oil alarm? my oil change alarm is still on, i have changes the oil.

Typically these are reset by a computer that hooks into the electrical access port for checking status of the vehicle. You can run by a shop that does oil changes and tune ups. Sometimes they will reset this for you at no charge if you ask politely and advise the oil has been changed.
