If your oil pressure gets to low it can turn off the fuel pump. This may also have saved your engine. The ECM turns on the fuel thru the fuel pump relay for about 5 seconds. When engine is running oil pressure sender supplies the voltage to the pump. When engine shuts off check oil pressure and voltage to fuel pump.

How do you get the car to start back up after you put oil in the car

  • Anonymous Jun 16, 2011

If the engine was shut off because the oil pressure sender cut voltage to the fuel pump, it will start back up when voltage is returned. Try turning the ignition off for five to ten seconds then try to restart engine. The engine should restart because the ECM will re-prime the fuel pump. The best way to check the fuel pump is to first hook a voltmeter to the to the grey fuel pump prime wire. I am not sure where it is under the hood, but it is there.

Usually a drop in oil pressure after warm up means the main bearings are worn and oil is leaking past them to the point it wont keep good pressure at warm idle go with a thicker oil it may help I would be willing to bet there is a slight knock in it if ur losing pressure the ecm could be killing the fuel pump bypass the sending unit and see if it still shuts off

1996 chevy cavalier and 2001 chevy cavalier fuel pump interchageable

In the book a 96 model only fits 96-98 cars.
But the actual pump may be the same. You get an assembly including float and lines when you buy a new part.
You may be able to look at a new assembly for each year and tell if the actual pumps are the same style.

I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY CAVALIER AND I WON'T STAY RUNNING. YOU HAVE TO PUMP THE GAS PEDAL WHILE TURNING THE IGNITION TO GET IT TO START UP. AND IF YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS IT KILLS THE ENGINE.

sounds like the fuel filter may be cloged or the fuel pump may be getting weak. have a fuel rail pressure test done. that will help diagnose the fuel system.

Chevy cavalier

try to replace the TPS or the IAC. It just might not be getting enough fuel or it is getting too much fuel.
