Monte Carlo,,,,starts and idles fine...then dies or nearly dies when gas is pressed. Fuel pressure at idel adn full vacuum is 35psi fuel pressure when vacuum line is removed from fuel pressure regulator is 44psi. One book I have says in 1999 the pressure was 52-55psi but all online references say 35 is ok. So what should it be?

Higher than 35 psi but not exceeding 65 psi
as pressure is determined by volume supplied by the pump then is logical that with a low pressure there is less volume and so injectors can be starved at acceleration and when full power is needed
at the extreme end , excessive pressure will cause injectors to leak and fuel to leak past injector seal causing poor economy and flooding

SOURCE: fuel pressure regulator had no vacuum line connected

another engineers wet dream. think of it this way . what is normally in the intake when the engine is running.. answer vacume, hence the regulator gets its vacume without a hose connected to it as its already in a full time vacume chamber.no hose required . ps be carefull to seat the regulator and o rings securely into the housing befor you reattach the secureing metal clip.
good luck chris

SOURCE: fuel leaking into vacuum line on fuel pressure regulator

If you have fuel on the vacuum side of the reg, that means the reg is leaking, causing a variaty of drivabiliy problems. Replacing this reg is very straight forward. Just add a little lube to the O-ring on the reg before installation. Good luck.

Check fuel filter, fuel pump pressure, try putting a little gas in the intake manifold, if it starts adn stays running, the fuel pump is not putting out enough presure to open the injectors to start.

Wont keep idle, car stalls out

I had this same problem on my 2005 monte carlo, took mechanic a while to figure out it was the idle air control valve. They also replace the idle air control motor.

2002 chevrolet monte carlo

My car was doing the same thing. It would stall out while idling or even turning a corner. I ended up replacing a few sensors but the problem was the fuel injector pressure regulator. The check engine light never came on. It was leaking fuel through the vacuum side of the diaphragm. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator and if there are any traces of gasoline it needs to be replaced.
