Generally the oil light indicates oil pressure is low and not the oil level, but not always. My car does say the oil is low. If you know it is a low level indication then this suggests a bad sensor. If it is the pressure than it is either the oil pump or the oil pressure sensor. If the oil pressure sensor is bad there is usually oil leaking around the sensor where the wire is attached. The sensor is somewhere on the side of the engine block. You may have to get underneath the car to find it.

Eather you have a bad oil pump, or the main, or rod bearing are wore badly. If its an oil pump it will cost at least 300 to have someone fix it because the oil pump is under the timing cover. If its the rod bearings it will cost about 150 to 200. If its the main bearings it will cost you a new engine at the price of what they will charge you to change them. If you do it yourself then it can cost you cost between 50 to 150.

How do I add oil to my 1997 911?

Warm up the car and have it sit on a flat surface, because Porsche uses a dry sum system you can only check it when the motor is running. open the cap and check the dip stick level, just fill it below the max mark.

My oil light comes on at idle speed in my SantaFe 2006 CRDi engine

This is not necessarily a problem. If the oil is at correct level and viscosity grade, and the light always goes out with a small (not large) rise in revs, then it could possibly be OK. An engine does not need much oil pressure at idle, say 600-800 RPM.

It could also be a faulty sender unit on the engine, a worn oil pump, or a faulty oil pressure relief valve on the oil pump or in the filter.

To be sure, get an oil pressure gauge fitted to the sender outlet hole, and see what the reading is at various revs. If there is indeed a pressure problem by the gauge, try first a new oil filter. If not it is probably a faulty sender unit.

I was low on oil. The warning lights came on and I immediatley pulled over and put a quart in. The light stayed on so I put in another quart. After looking at the dip stick I saw that I must have been...

first I would put in the proper amount of oil, once you are sure the level is full and if the light still comes on, pull the wire from the oil pressure sending unit, the light should go off with key on, if the light goes off then the sensor is bad. replace sensor

Oil light with a line underneathe it, what does the light indicate?

Low oil, bad sensor, really low idle.
First check oil level.
then if oil level is ok, and oil light is still there, pay attention to idle has to be 750 to 850 RPM.

If idle ok, give gas to increase idle to more than 2000 rpm if light goes away you need a sensor called OIL PRESSURE SWITCH.

I have an 02 wrangler and the oil preasure goes down when Idling is that an oil pump going bad?

First we would need to know when this occurs. Asuming the oil level is at the full mark!. If the pressure goes up during acceleration and down at idle when engine is fully warmed up, then this is normal. An engine requires 10 psi of oil pressure per 1,000 rpm ( ex. 20 psi at 2,000 rpm, 25 psi at 2,500 rpm, and so on ) . If the gauge is moving back and forth erratically at idle , i would say the gauge is bad. If it drops to 0 while accelerating I would say your oil pump is bad. If from time to time it seems to work and other times it seems not to work, I would say the oil pressure sending unit for the gauge is bad. If the pump failed you would start to here a Knocking noise from the engine in a short period of time. Use the above scenario's to narrow down what it may be.

2004 Chev Epica - oil light comes when car comes to a stop

the oil light is coming on due to sensed low engine oil pressure, this is not a level issue unless u are about 3 quarts low, oil pressure indicators don't leave any computer codes, so who ever told u that is wrong, u need to test the oil pressure with a mechanical gage when the oil light is on, until U need to confirm that u don't have a real pressure issue here or you can burn out the engine bearings, if the pressure checks ok then rplace the oil pressure light sending unit in the engine.

Oil light in 1999 Toyota camry comes on when idling.

bad to worn out oil pump or excessive oil passage clearances that allowing more oil to pass thru them at a lower pressure due to the bigger opening. It can be a sign of an emminant engine failure due to oil starvation.

Check the vacuum hoses, but sounds like the IAC or even the o2 sensors. The computer will pick up on the o2 sensors but not the IAC..Go to your local ADVANCE store and they will check on computer for free :)
