Hey

They don't put a fill tube on them . It's suppose to be life time fluid. Must be filled from the fill hole and the plug is on the right rear side of the trans.

Hope this has helped

SOURCE: If there is inadequate of

Hi there,

Transmission Fluid is the lifeblood of your auto and considered to be the one of the most critical components for a good working transmission, as the chemical makeup & viscosity of the fluid helps determine correct pressure and shifting. For this reason, use only BMW specified fluid - DO NOT use any non-approved fluid.

Measuring correct transmission fluid level is done after the engine/trans has WARMED UP.

If you measured your transmission fluid level using a dipstick, then you generally add BMW spec fluid through the same tube as the dipstick. CAUTION: never overfill the transmission, as excess fluid will cause 'foaming' and this usually creates further shifting issues.

If you have determined the fluid is low, the trans components will still function, but any attempt to operate the transmission in DRIVE with inadequate fluid, will likely cause unneccessary damage.

If there is no dipstick present, then this model BMW (much like the Merc's) denies you the ability to change your trans fluid yourself. This is a precautionary measure by the manufacturer to prevent the owner from changing the fluid. Instead, the workshop will have a special tool to measure the fluid level.

Cheers,

How do I change and ad transmission fluid to a1998 BMW 740il

My 1989 735i has lifetime fluid (whatever that is supposed to mean) and thus is harder than most to change. This seems absurd to me as I would much rather change the filter and fluid once in a while than buy a new trans every 10 or 15 years. To add fluid, same as any other car--thru the dipstick tube. To change, remove the trans pan. If yours does not have a dipstick, I have no idea. Might be good to buy a shop manual if you plan on working on this car.

Where do i find the transmission dipstick at

There isn't one. To check the transmission fluid level there is a plug that you must remove. The fluid should be to the level of the threads. See here http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/68013 or here http://tech.bentleypublishers.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/66-15645-136704-1551/ATFCapacity.pdf

What kind of power steering fluid is used for BMW

The cap to your power steering reservoir should either say ATF or CHF11s. If it is ATF you can use Dexron automatic transmission fluid. If it is CHF11s the dealer is the only place I know that sells it. There should be level marks on the cap stick.

Where do u put transmission fluid in a bmw 740il 2001

Here is the procedure:

The transmission temperature must be between 86° to 130° F (30° to 55° C) before checking With engine running, switch on AC While holding vehicle with brakes, place transmission into each gear briefly With engine running and transmission in park, remove Fill/Check plug. If a small amount of oil runs out, fluid level is correct. If no oil runs out fluid level is low, add fluid as required through Fill/Check plug hole. When level is correct, reinstall Fill/Check plug and tighten to correct torque.
