Don't replace the iac before you test everything. the TPS, MAP and O2 sensors as well as the coolant and manifold temp sensors have far more to do with your problem than does the IAC which pretty much reacts to what the computer tells it to do, based upon info from those sensors.

I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe that has a strong gas smell when the car has been secured.

secured.means what? in what country?
what engine.
parked key in pocket?
is this the CNG engine (compr, natural gas) or gasoline (petrol)
tell what fuel this car uses first, I will answer for gasoline
1.7L gas or CNG?

first is to not guess, 100's of related parts;.
get the car serviced as 99% do.?
not told at all if car smells gas
  • parked, (short or long time)
  • moving
  • or at idle packed,
  • or windows down driving or what? or even windows up, blower off.
MPG shot. that is running smell, and wasted fuel max.

so means engine is running super rich and not the pump is not bad.
FPR many be.bad. up FRONT LNG, but in fuel tank GAS.(petrol)
Is the check engine lamp (cluster) glowing driving ,I bet it is and is ignored by you,? FPR are high fail rate this old. sorry

scan the PCM is next. scan it see lots of errors you will called DTC
all scan tools work on your USA Civic.
but no country you told and matters HUGE ON SCANS !!!
now Gasoline engines that fail rich and stink, rich.
  1. fuel pressure too high, FPR bad.
  2. leaking injectors, or stuck open or closed.
  3. gross misfire spark, bad, spark plugs 21 years old have zero chances, or bad COP boots or bad coil pack HV wire sets or all.
  4. bad engine or has lots of causes. or cam belt slipped no engine told. cam belt never lasted 21 years ever then slips. and goes super rich fuel and very low engine power. 60-100k miles life span or 5 years. max. did you ignore belt service?
FPR means Fuel pressure regulator, gas engine is in the tank.
a pump puts out near 60PSI but the FPR knocks this pressure down
and also keeps it steady. atr.

scan the PCM if CMP/CKP errors both the cam belt slipped.
P03xx errors. scan it now.

Could My BMW 1998 e36 running rich trigger a evap code p0442 code,if so what would the culprits Be? I've changed the Purge Valve canister, hoses, valve cover, gaskets, grommets. The car runs super rich no...

air temp sensor/maf usually the problem if running rich as it add more fuel thinking its abnormal temp. can also be a leak in the vacuum line, and last of all the cats but evap code is the vent in the tank air line is not working correctly or there is an air leak or blocked. goes off for both.

Why is a very strong gas smell coming from my tailpipe?

White smoke is water vapor and in this cold climate it is normal. Strong gas smell is not normal although you may smell some while engine is warming up. Bad cat converter can produce smells, but usually more like rotten eggs. If engine is running rough and seems rich, check coolant temp sensor. Bad converter can cause stalling too. Otherwise, idle speed is controlled by idle air contol motor which can get dirty and stick. Any codes set?

93' cavalier, very rough running. Missing badly at all speeds and loads, including at idle in park. changed plugs and no change in symptons. Is this an injected motor (4 cyl)?

Yes it is fuel injected. If it runs but has no power there is a good chance that an ignition coil went bad and there would be no spark to two cylinders. Cylinders 1 and 4 are partners on the same coil and 2 and 3 are partners. Usually these cars if an injector goes bad they have an external leak.
You can try to listen to them by holding a screw driver to each on while its running but I don't think
that will be your problem anyway.Another giveaway for the coil could be a gas smell like it is partially flooded. When you changed the plugs were any of them wet with fuel ? There is also a chance that if the engine works ok at highway speeds that the egr valve is stuck open. This causes
rough running at idle and bad hesitation until highway speed is achieved. Hope this helps or let me know and we'll figure it out.

98 jeep grand cherokee black smoke

Either your too rich and gas is getting by the piston rings going into the crankcase(oil pan)or you have a defective fuel pump (even if it is new!!)IT'S one or the other!!Running the car very rich for a period of time will have fuel in the oil!! I run mind rich for the nos and smell gas in the oil when draining it and only have a few passes on the motor with the nitrous, but runs extremely rich at idle because the timing is backed way down and running a colder plug causes a rich condition!! Plugs will foul quickly also!!

Runs back in cold weather

Hello,
The most likely problem with your van, assuming that there is no check engine light being lit is that the small motor on the air intake manifold has stopped working . this will cause the motor to run badly when it is at idle forcing you to keep the gas pedal depressed to keep it running smoothly. This motor usually has only 2 screws securing it to the manifold so it is an easy fix.

Good luck!
