My 2001 tracker won't start all the time, i thought it was the starter so i replaced it, now it starts sometimes but not always

sounds like your bendix on the starter spring load mechinism gear you will need to test it by removing your starter and hooking up a battery to it. You will see and hear the gear come out and turn...if it doesnt function properly then you will have to replace your starter.also may want to check the solinoid..
