1992 ford f250 rear tank removal to fix leak can

There are several things that I would check, Richard. The most obvious is a fuel line leak from the rear tank. Another possibility is a kinked neoprene hose near the tank's fuel pump. It the rear tank has not been used for a while the tank may have some water in it. Try a bottle or two of water remover (isopropyl alcohol). If none of those things are found, then you should get a fuel pump pressure test.

You should have a cutoff swich under dash on pass side of truck.
The fuel pump a a 7.3 1997 f250 is behind the fuel/water separator.Between the cyl heads.Remove the turbocharger then fuel/water sep.remove banjo bolt and seal ringsat rear of pump.remove line asmby
one for each cyl head at rear.and remove fuel asmby.
Ensure camshaft lobe for pump is on base circle with lobe facing away
from pump to prevent pump damg.

I believe you are referring to the shield under the tank, and yes, you can remove it w/out dropping the tank. I replaced my 2 tanks in a 90 F-250. The only problem may be corrosion, and trying to remove the bolts that attach the shield. Be careful, as you don't want any sparks due to the leak. Don't park or work on the truck inside. I was fortunate to replace mine on a nice breezy day, so any fumes didn't build up from the leak. I also ran the truck empty, had a can of gas with me to be able to make it home. You don't want to drop the tank with gas in it, it's too heavy and more dangerous. Good luck.

try loosening the injector lines a little then crank it.it probably has air in the lines and wont blow through the injectors,once fuel comes out while cranking,tighten them,if this is the problem it should start but run rough untill the lines are tight,it shouldnt hurt much to get a little fuel on the engine

place some kind of support under tank remove the strap bolts lower tank till you can reach the fuel lines & wires on top the tank mark & disconnect all then lower tank all the way out also try to do this with the tank empty

You can just feed a new line over the tank and try to clip it onto the existing one. Best of luck, hope the job goes ok.

Either your lines arent pressuring up and its pushing fuel back out the injectors or the o-rings on the injectors are bad. I had the same problem...I replaced the o-rings and it fixed it!

because if you want to sell the truck later down the road it would sell quicker knowing the second tank is there and working
