Try shooting WD-40 or similar into the key slot and running the key in and out several times.
Then rock the steering wheel while attempting to start again.
try turning the steering wheel while turning off the key. if not than push hard on the shifter in park and try the key again. try several times. also push on the brake at the same time.
How does it idle when you first start or idle when hot.
On the top of the air intake tube there is a small screw which should when screwed in speed up the idle and if it dosent work or it idles fine when cold or warm at idle then its your GEARs are binding up and there's not to much you can do about that ........sorry
I had this problem with my 1999 alero i took it apart and investigated it myself because i have been a mechanic for 25 years now but i had to replace the starter relay the whole ignition system and believe it or not new valves. After I replaced all of those my alero drove better then eer and the lights never went back on or any of the other lights....
