1993 ford escort with manual transmission. When the gas pedal is released the engine does not automatically slow down. It does slow down after a minute or two. Is there a spring that needs to be replaced?

Check IAC motor sit on the throttle body it controls the idle speed of the engine if bad or dirty will not be able to control idle speed, try cleaning it with carb spray first if that don't work ,it will have to be replace, also check for vacum leaks, but more then likely Idle Air Control is bad.

There are usually return springs but it could just be that your car coast a long time when in high gear before it starts to slow down. My Jeep is the same way, if I'm running at 55 I can coast for a few miles before I slow down very much.

What does no engine break mean on nissan

When a downhill is detected with the gas pedal released, the engine brakes/slows your speed by downshifting the transmission to slow acceleration of the vehicle. Nissan has this function in their CVT automatic transmissions.

1995 Ford Escort Wagon Automatic, Won't shift

Hi there,

Most modern automatic cars require the driver to depress the brake pedal first, to allow releasing the gear out of Park.

Some automatic transmissions also provide an 'overide' switch near the gear lever, to allow manual release of the gear lever.

If neither of the above resolve this, then you will need to check the operation of your brake switch, mounted on the brake pedal.

Try cleaning the throttle body and check the gap on all the spark plugs also all electrical sensor plugs and battery terminals this could be related to engine temperature also if to hot rpms stay up longer to cool off but maybe your idle air control valve is bad when did it start?

"2001 ford escort zx2 will

If it has a manual transmission, check the clutch start switch on the clutch pedal support. If it has an automatic transmission it could be the transmission range sensor mounted on top of the transmission right side of the engine. In either case it could be the ignition switch (this is the switch you put the key in to start the car).

I have a 1999 ford ranger 3.0 automatic transmission an my truck will start an go in gear but will not move wen gas pedal is press it jus rams the engine up wat could b my problem??

It sounds like you have a problem with your transmission. If it has overheated in the past, it might be fused, it could be low or out of transmission fluid ... or there might be some sort of debris inside the transmission causing it to lock up. Automatic transmissions are not directly linked to the drive shaft like a manual transmission is (so when you hit the breaks on the highway the vehicle does not fight against you slowing down). For this reason, you would be able to put it in gear and the engine will not just stop (like releasing the clutch on a manual with the emergency break on). I recommend taking a look at the transmission fluid first. If it is low or empty, fill it.
If the transmission fluid is black or has a HUGE amount of debris in it then take it to a transmission shop and have them take a look. if it is full, still red, and has little or no debris in it .. I would still recommend taking it to a transmission shop to have it looked at -- it might be a locked differential or something simple .. but it is impossible to tell without taking a look at the truck.

When i push my clutch pedal down the starter engages, what is the cause of this?

Hi!!

The clutch switch is designed to prevent vehicle from accidentally engage the starter unless the clutch pedal is depressed. (It is the equivalent to the Neutral Safety Switch for automatic transmissions.)

Pressing the clutch pedal by itself will NOT activate the starter unless the key is in the RUN position.

Check your ignition switch. it may be stuck on RUN.

Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck!!

Transmission problem with 2001 Ford Escort

Sounds like a problem with the shift interlock. Here's how it works:You put your foot on the brake pedal, the brake pedal switch sends voltage to a solenoid mounted on your shifter. The solenoid unlocks the shifter, and you remove it from Park. When the interlock doesnt work,it's usually the interlock solenoid mounted on the shifter malfunctioning, however the brake pedal switch,or wires to and from can also be at fault.
