Why rattling noise comes under hood and/or under chassis?

Does it sound like a valve or piston, or something loose on the exhaust pipe ?

Battery light turned on. Lost power steering and AC.

You broke your serpatine belt. Needs replacing. It's a $50ish part and easy to do if you have a diagram under the hood of how the belt fits. But if it was "rattling" for a couple of weeks take it in for crying out loud. Let the mechanic look it over to make sure your lack of vechile care didn't destroy anything under the hood.....

Hi, I was just driving home and my car was making

Yes, you apparently heard the belt as it came apart. You can look around the path of where you heard the noise and see if there is any obvious damage but usually, there are just a few marks unless a small wire or hose are in the path of the belt. good luck

Passenger seatbelt adjuster rattle.

Are you sure its the b pillar? When driving its really hard to hear noise's. This car is noise prone by the way.

A very common noise comes from the 3rd row lower seat brackets. Drive the car and check for noises from the 3rd row seat bottom.

Timing belt or timing chain?

You 98 Corolla has a timing chain that it internal and need no normal maintenance. It uses a hydraulic/spring tensioner to keep things tight and as long as its quiet, everything is fine.
Your drive belt (not to be confused with a t. belt) is the external belt you see on the passenger side of the engine. It drives you alt, water pump, A/C and power steering. It uses a spring loaded tensioner to keep the belt tight. These can weaken over time and cause a rattle noise and belt slippage.

Clicking Noise Coming From Under The Hood

Have you checked your belts? A piece of belt may have come off and been slapping under your hood, and then fell off completely. While it was slapping, your computer would have detected the slow down of pulleys etc. and caused your engine light to come on. Then when the piece broke off, everything would be back to normal. Let me know!
