Ok, change the oil to proper viscosity. This happened to me on my 1997 Cadillac Deville. The manual says that when this happens, the oil could be too thick (filled with gunk I suppose). Oil won't flow right when it hasn't been changed for a while.

1997 Cadillace Deville: My oil pressure light comes on when I am stopped at a redlight and goes off once I give it gas. The Oil Level Sensor AND the Oil Pressure Sending Unit have both been replaced. About...

This problem is caused by a defective oil pressure sending unit on the engine in most cases. The oil pressure sending unit is located on the oil filter adapter housing on the front of the engine. It is hidden a bit behind the front engine mount bracket.

My son just bought a 1986 cadillac deville and the "stop engine oil" light comes on whenever he stops the car. Any ideas, a bad sensor, I hopr?

Well, if you say that when he stops the car, but the engine still running (idling) - that "stop engine oil" light comes on, it could mean that the oil pump can no longer maintain the minimum oil pressure to the critical areas of the motor at an idle.
If the light goes out with a higher idle (driving the car) that is a good indication of a worn out motor.
be sure the oil is at the full mark, not below or above the full mark. Make sure the oil and filter are new. The sender units for the oil lights rarely go out - but it is possible.

Hi i recently bought a 95 deville sedan, and when i come to a stop the low oil pressure inication light comes on. if i turn the car off and back on, i have no problem. what are the possible causes of this...

A bad oil pump would be your worst case, but, My oil pressure gauge drops right down to nothing at idle and goes right back up when I take off. It's like a tachometer. Has been like that for 10 years. Might just be a sensitive sending unit. My old truck had a gauge that would measure 65 lbs pressure with one qt of oil in it! So, the pressure in not necessarily the level. I don't know what to say about the light. Hope this helps.
