Hi,

The issue you are having is with the power latch assembly. This system has multiple items and sensors related to its operation and even has its own control module (computer) that will set codes if there is a problem such as what you are having. The only way to be 100% sure is to check the power liftgate control module with a scanner capable of accessing it. What I have found to be the most common problem is the power rear latch in the lift gate that actually closes the rear hatch in the last few inches on movement and it issues that it it latched in place. You will need to replace the power liftgate latch assembly.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

I REPLACED LIFTGATE POWER LATCH ASSY ALREADY AS I SAID LAST TIME . THERE NO BODY FUALT CODES AND BODY MODULE WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK BUT I CANT GET IT TO OPEN LIFT MOTOR STARTS FOR A SEC THEN STOPS

  • Anonymous Jun 09, 2010

    Thanks for your response!!

I was looking at the service manual for the power liftgate, and there
are a lot of cut-off switches that can cause the liftgate motor to stop
or not operate at all. On both sides of the liftgate are those
elongated plastic pressure switch that senses obstruction when closing,
    that can stop the motor.

For that temperature related motor not working >>>> it might
be the chime/thermistor switch that disables the motor. It is built
together with the chime buzzer, which is located inside in the rear
plate light assembly. Try to remove the rear plate bar assembly to
assess the chime/thermistor . . . test it if working, i.e. heat it with a
hair dryer and test the lift gate if it will operate. The thermistor
switch resistance increases with heat. The power liftgate control
module operates when the thermistor resistance is within the preset
    range.

Let me know, once you would check all this.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice
    day!!

The rear door want open on my 2005 Lincoln navigater the button up by rear view mirror is broken and the button under the handle on the door want do any thing

Does it have a power lift gate ? Do you know anything about automotive electrical systems ? How to use a wiring diagram along with a digital volt ohmmeter to test electrical circuits . ?
Power Liftgate
The power liftgate feature will allow the customer to automatically open or close the liftgate by activating the interior open/close switch, the remote keyless entry transmitter, or by manually initiating liftgate movement. The power liftgate uses a power cinch system to latch the liftgate.
The power liftgate system consists of:
  • Power liftgate control switch (located in the overhead console)
  • Power liftgate motors (located in the rear headliner area)
  • Optical sensor and power liftgate encoder wheel (located in the left power liftgate motor assembly)
  • Pinch strip switches (located on the body by the liftgate)
  • Home position switch (located on the cinch actuator)
  • Forkbolt switch (located on the cinching latch assembly)
  • Detent switch (located on the cinching latch assembly)
  • Liftgate close chime module (located in a unit external from the power liftgate module)
The forkbolt and detent switch are located on the cinch latch assembly and the home position switch is located on the cinch actuator assembly. For information on removal of the latch or cinch actuator assembly, refer to Section 501-14 .
The power liftgate may not operate under the following conditions:
  • a low voltage or dead battery.
  • a disconnected battery.
  • a power liftgate that has been left open for more than six hours.
  • a power liftgate that has been manually closed and left ajar.
If any of these conditions has occurred, the power liftgate must be reset before performing any pinpoint tests. For additional information, refer to Power Liftgate Initialization .

Power Liftgate Initialization NOTE: If the power liftgate system is turned OFF in the message center, the system cannot be activated with any switches or with the liftgate handle. The system will need to be turned ON for any power operation to occur.
NOTE: The power liftgate may not operate under the following conditions:
  • a low voltage or dead battery.
  • a disconnected battery
  • a power liftgate that has been left open for more than six hours.
  • a power liftgate that has been manually closed and left ajar.
If any of these conditions has occurred, the power liftgate must be reset.
  1. Manually close and fully latch the power liftgate.
  1. NOTE: If the power liftgate does not open during this step, refer to the symptom chart to diagnose the power liftgate for no operation. Power open the power liftgate by using the keyfob or overhead console switch.
  1. Once the power liftgate is fully open, close the power liftgate by using the keyfob or overhead console switch.
  2. your best bet mite be to have a qualified repair shop check it out .

I have a 07 Cadillac srx the rear hatch was working fine then the lift motor would run but nothing would happen but I could open it from out side with the handle I replaced the lift assembly and now it...

That's why you should take it to a qualified repair shop. Before replacing part's a factory or professional type scanner should be hooked up to see if the control module will communicate an to see if DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's are stored , before checking power an grounds . How did you test power an ground's ? voltmeter - ohmmeter ? Should do loaded circuit voltage test . using a headlamp or something that pull's at leat 4 amp's .

2008 suburban Stuck Lift Gate Lock

I have a 2008 Suburban with the power liftgate disabled. I have had the power latch stop working, and the BCM report that the rear access open when it is closed (both gate and glass). Somehow the liftgate module thinks the gate is open, so I cannot open the gate at all, and the latch and rear wiper will not work. To reset the control module I pulled the liftgate fuse (#20) in the instrument panel fuse box, turned the car on, off, reinstalled fuse, turned car on, unlocked doors using drivers side switch, and the power latch will function again - at least for a while.

The rear lift gate on my 2006 Lincoln Navigator will not open automatically or manually and there appears to be no way to access anything inside the door from inside or out.

POWER LIFT-GATE OPERATION - To open the optional power liftgate, push the button on the instrument panel , press on your five-button key fob (if equipped), or press and release the control located in the left rear quarter panel (Figure B). To unlatch the liftgate glass, push the button ) under the center of the license plate lamp shield, or press on your five-button key fob. Do not open the liftgate or the liftgate glass in a garage or other enclosed area with a low ceiling. Keep clear of the liftgate when operating the rear switch. To open the liftgate manually, pull the handle located on the liftgate to release the liftgate from the vehicle. The power system will take over when you release the handle. To close, make certain the rear window is closed, and then pull down the liftgate a few inches to activate power closing. Closing the gate rapidly or more than a few inches may activate the obstacle detection feature and stop the power system.------------ Also click this link for more help:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/05/power-liftgate-on-will-not-open-on.html ------------ This should help.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

1998 Chevrolet Venture Liftgate

it isn't that the cable is off I believe it will be that the mechanism is siezed. you will need to gain entry from the inside through an access hole in rear hatch door. once you get the door open you will need to remove the latch and oil it with penetrating oil and work the latch until it works freely

2003 Saturn Vue rear liftgate won't open

The easy part is you just need the latch for the liftgate. The hard part is getting to it and opening the liftgate to replace the latch. You should be able to pull the liftgate trim off most of the way with the gate closed and try to manually actuate the latch to open the gate. You may have to go so far as breaking the latch from the inside to open the gate and then replace your latch.
