Bought 3 mos ago 1997 Outback Limited Ed, 125k. Auto tranny has developed bad leak, can't find source. Also some fluid seems to be going into Differential as I can take out a QT. Drive a bit and it is full again.

Mcdevito75, The tranny has a front pump to pump fluid back and forth to the torque converter, a seal must be leaking fluid into the diff. also the diff, has tranny fluid in front wheel drive cars so tranny fluid in the diff. is normal, Tranny will have to come out to check that front pump, or fron tranny seal.

Testimonial: "Thanks! Good info, do the torque converters ever go out or can I use the original? Clyde III"

mcdevito75 here, Hello Clyde, It"s rare for the Tirque Converter to go bad, but they do. I feel sure you can use your original Torque Converter, but transmission will have to come out to fix the leak and the front pump.

Subaru's have 75/90 gear oil in the final drive/ front diff if you are getting trans fluid into the "diff" the seal between the diff and trans is bad although this would generally siphon gear oil into the trans

1997 Subaru Legacy Outback Limited. Why am I going through so many alternators.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

That is pretty crazy. It would be cheaper to get an auto electrician for an hour than to keep buying alternators. If a fuse melts, you have to find the reason why before replacing it. Jimmy rigging electrics just passes the problem along to another component. A Professional Grade Scan tool computer can diagnose in 20 minutes. They cost $3.5k to $5k!

1988 chevy 4x4 k1500 auto tranny wont shift into 2nd, 3rd etc

Check the sensors on the transmission. May just be corrosion on the sensors or it may be a faulty sensor. Also, the torque converter bearing may have went bad due to the running it on low transmission fluid.

A backyard mechanic gave my 2001 outback an old change. However he drained the tranny instead, then when replacing the tranny fluid he wrongly put over 3 quarts into the transfer case on the passenger...

To drain the transfer case, you will need to **** out the fluid some, you can get a hand held pump at your local auto store. Then you will need to make sure that you add the proper transfer case fluid, then drain it again, then add the proper amount. Good luck with this, and my suggestion is to make sure that you hire on a mechanic that is certified, Lic, and bonded, or take it to a shop.

I have a 1993 ford explorer 2wd. It has about 275,000 miles on it. For some reason my transmission fluid is leaking into the engine oil. When I noticed that my transmission was slipping, I put a qrt. of...

If you have a vacuum modulator on the trans,it could have a bad diaphram and **** trans fluid into the engine.
Now I do not know what model or unit trans you have. No vacuum mod, then the dealer is correct.
You can look just above the trans oil pan, near the rear, for that part and easily change yourself. Get at auto parts store. It will be the thing with a 3/16 vacuum hose on it,going to a port or vacuum switch on intake manifold

Hello, I bought 1997 merc sable wagon with 125000

Rebuilding the transmission. That's quite a few miles on your transmission and the seals are finally letting go.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad (and expensive) news,

My 1997 ford explorer overheated and the transmission slipped

Tranny fluid may have been contaminated with coolant since tranny cooler lines go to radiator or condensor.
I would fix your leak on radiator, then completely drain tranny fluid and filter and replace.

"is there a plug to drain tranny fluid on a 94 accord with auto

You must either drop the pan or have a transmission flush performed. The filter is only a screen so most people use a transmission flush for this issue.

Check engine light tranny temp light, and o/d light

where the transmission and transfer case meet there is a weep hole, check for leakage out that hole...if it shows a leak you probably have a rear transmission seal leaking. if there is any sealer around where they meet someone tried to stop the leak without properly repairing it.

Auto transmission taking lots of fluid to fill

did you recently empty the tranni? like fluid or filter change? If not, there is a leak. I've seen the radiator go bad and tranni fluid gets forced into the cooling system. Check cooling system for reddish oily substance. If there is, replace radiator and refill tranni and cooling systems. may be a good idea to do cooling system flush.
