Doesnt mean system is empty, because no oil came out off compressor, unless the system was flush and should be flushed with cleaner, then the system would hold 10oz, of oil, also make sure to spin compressor by hand 10 times to get the oil and liqiud out of cylinders, add a couple ozes of oil in dryer then compressor and the evaporator core to equal 10oz of oil, after added oil to compressor stand on pulley to coat seal let sit for 10min, then after all line are connected then you spin 10 turns, hope this help,

How much oil is required for a new AC compressor 91 ford ranger, 3.0, the system is completely empty, (replacing compressor, no oil in it)

System 7 to 9 oz

Condenser 1 oz
Dryer or Accumulator 1 0z
Evaporator 3 oz
Compressor 3 to 4 oz

On most vehicles

You have a big problem---no R12 has been avail for the
last 15 years

SO-- you need to flush every component of mineral oil
& replace with ester or pag, then switch to R134A refrigerant

That may require a compressor built for those pressures &
"o" rings such as the green ones

Need to research what your doing

How do I remove the Ac oil in my 89 corvette when switching from freon to 134 . How much should be added and where?

I have upgraded or retrofitted older cars with r134a before with the ester oil and never had any problems with the refrigerant working with the old oil, as long as you put a few ounces of the new oil in.

The kit for r134a conversion from R-12 has everything you need to upgrade without removing all of the old oil.

Of course, in the early days of r134a conversion in the early 1990s there were people who recommended that you take the whole system apart, compressor, piping, receiver drier, etc. and replace the receiver drier and dump out the old oil.

In my opinion, this is a very expensive proposition, and good to excellent air conditioning can be had by following the R134a conversion kit instructions and installing 2 or 3 cans of refrigerant into your system.

This can be done by yourself.

Watch, if you're in California, you have to return empty cans of R134a to the store because they say that it is harmful to the environment and they want to keep track of it.

Good luck staying cool with R134a.

I have a 89 ford ranger with a 2.9 v 6 and the lifters are tapping it has good oil pressure .

Very common problem, some 2.9L were mechanical lifters that required adjustment, others have trouble with the hydraulic liters being noisy.

The AC compressor clutch repeatedly tries to kick in when the AC is off (vent or defrost is on) in my 2006 Ford Ranger. What to do?

The ac compressor will cycle when in the defrost position. The system is designed this way, so that the freon will circulate at times in the system so the seals don't get hard or crack. Otherwise, you would have to replace the seals in your ac about once a year. If it is cycling too often then the freon may be liw and the system needs recharged. If your ac does not work and you are not going to repair the system. You can unplug the compressor so it won't come on and put a load on the engine.

Air conditioner in a 1998 ford ranger is not working

since u need a special pump to pull the system down after repairs no u can't do it at home, the problem however is the O ring seals on the AC lines, replace all of them, in most cases this corrects the leak, also check the bottom of compressor for oil residue, if found replace the compressor front seal, that also will require special tools.

Help on changing out a A/C compressor in a 95 ford ranger

if you do not have an a/c recovery machine, it is very dangerous to perform this yourself. there is no way to remove the ac compressor without releasing the refrigerant into the atmosphere, it is dangerous to do and a very very stiff fine if anyone sees you. (also very very very messy. once it starts spraying, it wont stop until empty and you will have a green oily film EVERYWHERE!)

Ac compressor oil

First off is your compressor pre-lubed? to find out, remove shipping caps from ports and tip to side and see if any oil comes out. As a rule of thumb, The oil is sold in a small bottle pre measured for the entire system. 1/4 bottle per item (compressor, evaporator, condenser, and filter/dryer) The label showing cc's will do fine for your oil needs as the system will find its own level once activated. Oil continuously flows througout system. Need I remind you that when replacing compressor you should also replace filter/dryer so you do not repeat this job in two months.
