Since you are still under warranty, I suggest getting your transmission checked at a dealer. We had to get ours replaced at about 28M miles. It was making wierd noises, especially in a parking lot at low speeds and when turning slowly.

There is no dipstick for the transmission fluid on our model :(

If you recently changed tires, then that could possibly be the noise too.

My 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan won't move in drive

First, I'm not a Dodge Mechanic,
* I had a 2001 Caravan with the same problem.
* Sorry, but your transmission is bad. No way around this other than to change it. I was offered a rebuilt trans for a total of $2,300 (Hawaii). New ones runs $5K so I figured (2008) that the caravan was not going to last another 10 years (came with a 5 year warranty) I could live with only 5.
* I've found the caravan and similar mini vans all has trans problems.
* Find yourself a reliable trans shop and have it replaced.
* By the way. My nephew is driving the caravan as of 2018. Still good. (well the trans is. Ceiling cloth hangs, radiator was replaced 2016, Water pump 2017.......)

I have a '94 Caravan w/ a 4-speed trans-axle . When cold it will stay in first gear and also delay engaging in reverse until 2 -4 minutes.I have had a shop change the filter and fluid to no avail. They...

Remove the transmission pan, change the tranny oil filter & adjust the low-reverse band. Any chilton or haynes manual gives the tolerances & step by step procedure to effect repairs. You will need approx. 7 qts. of tranny fluid. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Lube Guard makes a friction modifier additive for transmission fluid that requires it. You can find it at major auto parts stores. Go to Lube Guard. com and check it out.

Makes a loud whining noise and is slipping when

Verify that your trans fluid is at the correct level. When if at all was the trans last serviced?

If fluid is low, try bringing it up to proper level with Valvoline ATF+4 fluid. You need to used either fluid from a dealer, or the valvoline brand which is approved by Dodge.

Changing transmission fluid - waste of money or not?

90k kms is about 60k miles, so yes I would recommend a trans fluid flush and refill, not just a trans fluid and filter change. when you drop a trans pan to change the filter you are only replacing at most, one third of the trans fluid. the other two thirds stays in the torque convertor. chrysler is also now using ATF+4 synthetic trans fluid(recommended).

My 2004 pontiac montanas tranny slipes occasinally when taking off from a stop light.

the cause of this is either low fluid in the trans or a leaking internal seal in the trans, this causes a loss of hydraulic pressure and then the resaulting slippage

Our 2001 Dodge Caravan seems to be leaking oil around drive shaft

Yes it's a bad seal and most likely the side bearing to the trans axle is bad too. Once the bearing has play, it vibrates and causes the oil to leak though the seal. Note: if one side went bad the other side is soon to follow since they have the same amount of miles on them. Might as well change both side. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep an eye on the transmission fluid level, don't want to burn out the transmission.

I want to know what the basic maintance on a 2000 dodge caravan

It depends on the mileage. You should change hoses, belt(s) and coolant at least every 3 years. Change trans fluid and clean filter every 30,000 miles. Change oil every 3,000 miles. Check the air filter regularly. EGR valve is a 60,000 mile replacement I believe.

If you don't have an owner's manual and like to DIY, get a Chilton or Haynes repair guide. Check the brakes at every rotation - I use 5,000 miles as my guide.

2004 Dodge Grand Caravan Water pump

If it's red, it's transmission fluid. Coolant would be green. Check the fluid level, don't let it get low, Chrysler minivans are prone to transmission troubles, and low fluid levels over time will ruin a a transmission. And be sure not to overfill, it's just as bad for the trans. Have the leak checked out and repaired, good luck
