You may have a faulty gas cap. If you are tightening the cap down securely the light will go off after the car is driven about 40 miles. I suggest installing a new gas cap which should cost about $15 at your local auto parts store. *** Please rate me on this answer.***
I own a chysler aspen . The dealer put a new gas filler hose on it per recall and gas coming back out, so they did and i started having the gas cap message. so i hooked up a scanner and it said small evap leak. I looked on the internet for a solution .Back in 2007 chysler corp had a tsb on this problem for chysler aspen, dodge durango, town and country, It said replace the evap caniaster and gas cap because the esim switch on the evap caniaster had a fault problem. But dont tell the customer or fix it for free. Do a smoke test. If thats the problem them tell the customer how much to fix, So chysler new about this problem back in 2007 but would not fix it under a recall, Shady if u ask me. This will fix your problem also, Use the reset button on the above display area. Not the push button by the odometer.
Dealing with same issue on my 2006 Chrysler van. You may have a bad evap sensor. Could be damage to the tank not allowing a proper seal. Good luck.
