Is the system ESOF ( Electronic Shift On the Fly ) or MSOF ( Mechanical Shift On the Fly ) ? When you engaged 4L, did you follow the procedure in the owners manual ? Did you happen to drive too fast with it. You should only have to put the trans in neutral or park to disengage it, some will still do the old school, back up a bit then put into park, and then try to disengage from 4L to 2H.

How do I repair low compression in a 2005 ford ranger #4 cylinder

Low compression can be caused by worn piston rings or worn valves. If blue smoke is coming out of the exhaust during high revs then it's more likely to be piston ring wear.

Trying to find the low pressure port to refill freon. Where can i find it on 2005 ford taurus

Look at the colored pressure caps on your A/C lines. One is labeled with a H and the other with an L. The L is the low pressure side. Should be the smaller of the two

2005 ford ranger 4L 4x4 overdrive does not engage when button on shifter is pushed. I also do not see the light on the cluster on

If you have it in 4 LOW, you would never need overdrive. Overdrive is a road high gear that you would use only in 4 HIGH (or 4H) on your shifter. 4L (or 4 Low) would only be used in a very slow speed hill climb. You would NEVER use 4 Low on the road.
