1998 expedition coolant leak near the Transmission

I would be checking for problem engine/ transmission mounts

Not very likely, check the coolant passage between the cylinder heads. (The front part of the intake, right behind the alternator) That piece which is part of the intake manifold has been a source of coolant leaks for many vehicles like yours. The alternator is pretty easy to remove... Disconnect the negative battery cable, turn the belt tensoner to remove the belt from the alternator, take out the two long 10mm bolts under the alternator and the three on top. I would check for leaks there because it was a common problem area, coolant would leak behind the alternator, fill the space under the intake manifold, and leak down right where the transmission bell housing is. There are expansion plugs, and allen plugs on the back of the cylinder heads, but they rarely leak.

coolant line for rear heating of the truck find out if they can be connected. u may see a nipple where the hose goes if so replace with a rubber heater hose. if nipple broke get new box from junk yard, buy new hoses and clamps and reconnect. you may need a/c rubber rings for the two ac lines. remember if replacing the box car should be cold your dealing with coolant. and release pressure from the ac lines before servicing

Hi, the side of the radiator is plastic, if its leaking there its getting ready to leak other places to, you need to replace radiator. Patching the problem will only waste your time.

It is the front pump seal of the transmission,the transmission has to be removed to replace the seal.

run pressure test on coolant system, tighten all hoses, has water pump been changed?

If you're running it without a thermostat it's clear there isn't enough/any coolant circulating through the block. When the motor is running are the hoses off the radiator soft and flexible or stiff. If they're soft there's no coolant flowing through them. Chances are the radiator core is bad or there is a crack in it somewhere. Have it removed and tested.

Mind did the same thing. The heater core went bad and on that model the box drains out under the car were condensation from the ac would let it out, instead of leaking inside the car on the passenger side on the carpet like older cars do.

you need to put it up on a hoist and see where it is coming from.i just did a windstar that was dripping down the back of the transmission to the ground,but it was a broken pipe on the heater core and it was running down the firewall behind the fire mat.
