Heed of engine temperature!!! (Wait for engine cooling).
The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor is placed on back of cylinder head, towards clutch side. Disconnect the electrical cable plug and remove the fastening circlip. Remove the ECT sensor by pulling out from cylinder head. Extract also old "O-ring" sealing rubber. Install new ECT sensor with new "O-ring" sealing rubber.

SOURCE: Temp sensor needs to be replaced

this does not mean the sensor is defective, it most likely means the engine thermostat is stuck open and the engine is not running hot enough to satisfy the computers preset temp requirements for minimum eng operating temp.

This might be what we call vapor lock try driving with your gas cap off and see if it still quits under the same conditions.

Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The ECM sends coolant temperature as determined by the coolant temperature sensor to the BCM via CAN serial data. The IPC displays the engine coolant temperature with the gage when the BCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC indicating coolant temperature percentage. The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to cold (0°) or below if:
• The ECM detects a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of CAN communications with the ECM.

2001 chevy malibu coolant temp sensor isnt working stuck at cold heater is hot and cooling fans are always on

You did not change the coolant temp sw. you change the ETC which sends a signal to the cpu. It looks just like the temp sw. Look on the driver side head and I believe you will see another one there or look the engine over for another sw just like the one you changed. Not sure what size engine you are asking about.

Camshaft position sensor correlation bank 1 code

timing belt is off by a tooth or two. you probably didn\'t have to replace the coolant sensor; that code sets whenever the sensor is disconnected and the ignition is turned on; and it needs to be reset by disconnecting the battery or with a code reader. anyway, the crank/ cam sensors are out of sync. if you\'ve got the twin cam engine, they are a royal pain to get the belt to lay properly on the two cams.

drain coolant, locate thermostat housing on engine at end of lower radiator hose, loosen clamp to remove hose from housing and disconnect sensor...remove bolts and carefully remove housing from engine. Inspect parts and replace anything worn (such as swollen hoses, damaged housing, defective temp sensor). Sealant is not necessary to re-install the thermostat.
