The battery is located in the trunk underneath the floor. there should be a handle on the floor and you lift it up to get to the battery. there is a positive battery cable post under the hood near the driver side strut mount, next to the fuse box.

Stoopid Volvo Engineers made it real handy-for Them to HIDE the battery, out of the way-but a pain in the rear for end-users.

Open the Trunk, and you'll find the battery is HIDDEN, near the taillight-driver's side. Pull up the trunk floor, and then use a socket wrench to remove two bolts-of DIFFERENT SIZES! One bolt prevents easy access. The other bolt, ostensibly, secures the battery. Although, sitting in such cramped quarters, I doubt the battery would move, without the bolts. That's why I've left my bolts off.

Most likely it is the battery, the battery is most likely located under the hood of the car close to the engine.

2002 Volvo S60 battery is located in trunk of vehicle. If you are at a non-volvo shop and are told that they cannot clear codes, you are most likely going to have to take it to Volvo for them to clear codes/error messages. If you are experiencing battery-charge problems, save yourself money, time, and annoyance by changing battery before it beats up excessively on your alternator.

Resetting computer on volvo s60 2002 after battery replacement

I had this problem on my 02 s60 after messing with the battery. The problem is that the computer is stupid and "forgets" how to manage the car if it completely loses power.

To retrain it you basically just drive the car. I've seen several sets of instructions but here's what works for me:

1. Start the car and let it idle until warmed up.
2. Using moderate throttle (don't floor it) get the car up to highway speeds.
3. Slow down to a complete stop.
4. Repeat 2-3 a few times if you're so inclined.
5. Done!

Skipping the highway part will work too, however, I've heard it can take much longer to retrain the computer (weeks to months depending on driving habits.)

I have a 2002 Volvo S60 with a dead instrument cluster.

It will not work. The speedometer cluster would have to have the software downloaded to it be a dealer.

I have the exact same problem.

check the relay for the fan. it's most likely located in the engine compartment fuse box, which on north american vehicles is usually near the battery. volvo's may be located on the fire wall passenger side. it's likely the relay is sticking on.

2004 volvo S60 seems to have a dead battery but I can't see where to use jumper cables and the trunk won't open

Look under the hood for a black plastic box that has fuses and relays in it. On the edge o the box will be a post sticking up that you can attach your positive cable to. It should have either a red cap on it or a symbol of a + sign with or with out a circle around it, probably in yellow. Then hook the negative (Black) one somewhere metal. It needs to be like the top on the strut or top od the engine where the loop is sticking up from it where it was originally installed, anyhting to complete a ground.
