SOURCE: How to remove ignition cylinder from Toyota Camry 1993

Here are step-by-step instructions for the removal and re-installation of your ignition cylinder on your Toyota. Hope this sheds some light on the subject and solves your problem. Have a great day!

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before working on the vehicle.
CAUTIONSome models covered by this guidemay be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in .
  1. Remove the lower steering column cover. Unfasten the ignition switch connector under the instrument panel.
  2. Remove the screws which secure the upper and lower halves of the steering column cover.
  3. Turn the lock cylinder to the ACC position with the ignition key.
  4. Push the lock cylinder stop in with a small, round object (cotter pin, punch, etc.).
On some vehicles, it may be necessary to remove the steering wheel and combination switch first.
  1. Withdraw the lock cylinder from the lock housing while depressing the stop tab.
  2. To remove the ignition switch, unfasten its securing screws and withdraw the switch from the lock housing.
To install:
  1. Align the locking cam with the hole in the ignition switch and insert the switch into the lock housing.
  2. Secure the switch with its screw(s).
  3. Make sure both the lock cylinder and column lock are in the ACC position. Slide the cylinder into the lock housing until the stop tab engages the hole in the lock.
  4. Install the steering column covers.
  5. Connect the ignition switch wiring.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

SOURCE: power steering belt on 1991 toyota camry

Locate the idler pulley. Loosen the nut in the center of the idler pulley. Then loosen the bolt that protrudes from the back of the pulley. This will let the belt go slack.

SOURCE: REMOVING STARTER ON 1994 TOYOTA CAMRY LE

The starter is found under front end.. Near where the moter meets the trani - you will see the flywheel (a big round gear) the starter connects to the flywheel to turn the motor..

Disconnect the battery..
Disconnect wires from starter..
Should be 2 bolts that hold the starter in - remove them..

The starter goes in only one way so you cant mess it up..

Rate well ;o)

If the key will not turn the lock cylinder and you have removed the switch, you probably need a new cylinder.

Key wont turn in the ignition

1997 Toyota Camry Key Wont turn, Ignition Lock problem -1997 toyota camry FIXED!!! I see a lot of Douches with a capital D trying to charge people to fix this extremely common issue with this Camry ignition cylinder. OK pull the plastic guard off encasing the steering column. Get a phillips head screwdriver and remove the 2 screws holding the little off-white connector at the rear of the module(it has the wires to the ignition running to it). Get a pair of pliers or a small crescent wrench and while trying to turn the key use the wrench to turn the little rod sticking out of the back of the module. Make sure your turning it WITH the direction the key is trying to turn it. It should immediate be freed. Voila IT WORKS! AND THATS WHY PEOPLE DONT TRUST MECHANICS! HOW CAN YOU CHARGE SOMEONE FOR THAT INFO?

How can I tell if the ignition switch is bad in my toyota camry?

You need a tachometer compatible with the Toyota Camry's ignition system. Start up the Camry's engine and let it reach normal operating temperature. Connect the tachometer tester probe to terminal IG of the Data Link Connector 1. Connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the DLC1 with a jumper connector. Inspect the tachometer's timing. It should be between 8 and 12 degrees Before Top Dead Center. Set the timing as necessary. Tighten the hold-down bolt and make sure the ignition timing advances. Ignition Coils Disconnect the negative terminal from the Camry's battery. Remove the two nuts and clips on top of the cylinder head cover, then remove the cover. Disconnect the four ignition coil connectors and the bolts retaining the coils. You can now remove the coils. Replace the coils as needed. Connect the bolts and coil connections and replace the cylinder head cover.

97 Camry ignition key will not turn need to get to turn to ACC so I can push pin and remove cylinder

Try any other keys that you have and put them in both ways. Spraying the lock with blaster and smacking the lock with the key removed may free it up then try the key again. A locksmith will do something like it and Pick the lock. They usally get $80 or so to do the work and they come to you.

Cant turn key to start 1997 toyota camry. tried all keys to car. after hours of jiggling key it catches and turns ignition to start. Do I need to replace ignition or tumblers in switch. If so HOW

Hello,
Yes you do need to charge the ignition barrel as it sounds as if the current one knakered, try going to the scrappy but be sure to get a barrel that they have the keys for also remember to keep your other keys for your car.

Trouble replacing ignition switch.

Normally we would replace the lock cylinder and housing at the dealer.....but if it were my car I'd uses a punch and hammer to slam that pin in and remove the cylinder. It's worth a try first before having to replace the entire housing.

You may have to drill out the lock pin in the cylinder. This is the pin that you have to push in to remove the cylinder.
