I have a 2002 Monte Carlo SS. Problem I have is sometimes the the main headlights (lo beams) will not go on. All the other lights work perfect (daylight running, side marker, fogs, hi-beams). When it doesn't work its both on the automatic (when it starts getting dark outside) or when I manually turn it on. Some times it will work..sometimes it wont. Any thoughts???
Sounds like a defective headlight switch
The problem could be a few different thing's . Test the circuit with voltage drop would be the way to find the problem . Loaded circuit ,power on. Do you know how to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Do you know what a wiring diagram is an how to use one to pin point testing spots in a wiring circuit. . watch this video an then test the circuit

The ck engine light should not be ignored, what sensor was shown to be bad ? Have it scanned again and replace the sensor that is bad if it still runs rough you might want to consider a tune up. Plugs, wires, fuel and air filter's and clean the throttle body with some gumout. It could also be the IAC motor Idle Air Control. Good Luck

Day time running lights run low voltage to the high beam bulbs so it sounds to me like you need two new bulbs or you need to check the fuses and see if any need replaceing.
