There should be a bolt at the bottom backside of the pump that you need to loosen, not remove and the pump should swivel.

How do you change a power steering belt

Loosen the bolts that attach the power steering pump to the bracket. then push the pump down. this should make the belt loose enough to get off. then put the new belt on. take a pry bar and stick between the motor and the power steering pump through the top. push on the pry bar to raise the power steering pump and tighten the belt. while pushing on the pry bar to keep tension on the belt tighten the bolts that you loosened and you've changed your power steering belt. this can be done by one person, but it's a lot easier with two.

I have a broken belt that goes on the same pulley that another belt is already on. What all do I have to remove to be able to put the belt on. I guess the belt that needs put on is for the heat & air...

A/C Compressor Belt
  1. Remove the alternator/power steering and water pump drive belt to gain access to the air conditioning belt.

  2. Loosen the tensioner pulley locknut, then turn the adjusting screw to raise or lower the tensioner pulley assembly. Remove the belt.

To install:

  1. Install the belt.

  2. To adjust the belt, loosen the tensioner pulley nut and adjust the belt tension by tightening the adjusting screw. Tighten the pulley nut to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) after adjustment.

  3. Install the alternator/power steering and water pump drive belt and adjust.

  4. Start the engine and check for proper belt alignment and any abnormal noise.

Trying to change belt on a 1995 jeep wrangler got belt off and changed alter. now can't get belt back on. Can anyone help

Belt adjustment is made by loosening the power steering pump and turning the transverse bolt just below it. Loosen it up to put the belt on and use to adjust.

How to change the fan belts on 1993 Nissan Quest Minivan

First go to Nissan's help forum page. Use this link: http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/index.php

You can get a free login and download up to two files a day using the free login. You want the MA maintenance file of your vans manual. This will include the belt tensions and placement.
You will need to remove the plastic cover on the passenger side of the engine to be able to access the belt tensioners on the alt. and power steering pump. Nissan likes to use the same basic tensioners on most of their stuff. The air pump and air conditioner use idler pulleys, you loosen the bolt in the middle of the pulley enough to allow the pulley to move, no more. there is a bolt with its length toward the center of this pulley, when you loosen this bolt the pulley will start to move down and loosen the belt. repeat this process for both the air pump and the air conditioner. The alt. and power steering you loosen the bolt that secures the tensioner, than you can back off the long bolt in the tensioner to loosen and remove the belts.

I usually check each new built with the old one for length and label its sleeve by function as I take each one off. Makes matching them up when you put them back on much easier.

Hi, no need to raise the engine. you can use these steps to replace your pump.

To replace the power steering pump, proceed as follows:

1. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the remote reservoir or pump. Allow the fluid to drain from this hose into a drain pan. Discard the used fluid.
2. Loosen the bracket or belt tension adjusting bolt, and the pump mounting bolt.
3. Loosen the belt tension until the belt can be removed. On some cars, it is necessary to lift the vehicle on a hoist and gain access to the power steering pump from underneath the vehicle.
4. Remove the hoses from the pump, and cap the pump fittings and hoses.
5. Remove the belt tension adjusting bolt and the mounting bolt, and remove the pump.
6. Check the pump mounting bolts and bolt holes for wear. Worn bolts must be replaced. If the bolt mounting holes in the pump are worn, pump replacement is necessary.
7. Reverse steps 1 through 5 to install the power steering pump. Tighten the belt as described previously, and tighten the pump mounting and bracket bolts to the manufacturer's specifications. If o-rings are used on the pressure hose, replace the o-rings. Be sure the hoses are not contacting the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, or exhaust pipe during or after pump replacement.
8. Fill the pump reservoir with the manufacturer's recommended power steering fluid, and bleed air from the power steering system as described earlier.

Power steering belt removal

You need to loosen the large mounting bolt at the base of the power steering pump as well as the tension adjusting bolt on top of the unit that is attached to the slotted arm. You may need to use of a large pry bar to gently force the pump inwards to gain enough slack to remove the belt.
