I have a l200 saturn 03 was running with old coil and boots but was misfiring. Replaced coil and boots now wont start will roll over but wont start if does start dies within 1 min. plugged computer in says...

The 2003 Saturn L200 does have a camshaft position sensor. It is located on the bottom front of the engine behind the starter.

You will need to remove the 2-bolts that secure the starter to get to the sensor.

A p0340 fault code is indicative of either:
1.) a faulty camshaft position sensor
2.) Faulty wiring w/in CPS circuitry
3.) Faulty Ignition Control Module or Power-train Control Module
4.) or a mechanical timing fault; involving a damaged, loose, worn, stretched, or broken timing belt.

To diagnose and test the CPS and its wiring circuitry, you would take frequency measurements a designated RPMs to see if it is functioning within specifications...if the correct frequency measurements are within specs- it's not the CPS, wiring circuitry, or PCM/ICM; you're looking at a timing belt fault.

If that's the case (timing belt fault), since you have to tear down a part of the engine, it is recommended that you replace the timing belt, the timing belt tensioner, water pump, and idler pulley.

How to replace timing belt on 2004 l 300 Saturn

It's best left to a professional...the average home repair guy or gal doesn't possess the tools necessary to do this.
If the car was running when when the belt broke, it's a fair bet the engine Has been seriously damaged.....

2000 saturn ls time chain replacement

What exactly do you need to know about replacing the timing chain? Also you should note that the L200 (4 cyl) has a timing chain. The L300 (V-6) has a timing belt.

Another thing to note is that both of these are interference engines. If your timing chain (or belt) has failed and the engine will not start, the valves are likely bent and you may have damaged the pistons as well.

Was there a recall on timing chain for Saturn L200 2002 model?

Saturn never did a recall on them, but a little Googling will find you a wealth of knowledge about the problems that the 2.2L engines had with timing chains...more correctly, timing chain tensioners. It appears that the engine did/does not supply sufficient oil to the tensioner and approximately every 60-80K miles, it will fail and allow the timing chain to jump time. This can be catastrophic if it occurs at speed since the engine had aluminum heads and is an interference type engine. I recommend that if you have one that has failed, repair it and dump it, or just dump it. If you want to keep it, plan on servicing the timing chain every 50000 miles to avoid needing head replacement. My daughter had a 1999 Cavalier with the 2.2L engine. The first time the tensioner failed, it happened as she turned the car off and no head damage occurred. Replacement of the timing chain/gears/tensioner fixed it and then 60000 miles later, on the Interstate, it happened again. This time it took the head with it. Lesson learned.

My 03 saturn L200 is making a screeching sound when driven. What's wrong?

There is a spring loaded belt tensioner, when the spring gets old and loose the belt can squeal. The belt can get old and squeal, and a bearing in any of the devices being spun by the belt can get old and squeal. Keep your hands out of the belt area when the engine is running.

I have a saturn L200 series 2003 I have heard timing chain needs to be replaced by 100,000 miles but a mechanic told me I didn't have a timing chain is that correct?

There was a factory recall of the timing chain on the 2.2 Ecotec. This was done for me on my LW200, but then Saturn was still in business. Dealers are still around doing service though. Look over here for inside Saturn dope:

Free auto repair estimates for labor costs to replace the automatic belt tensioner and serpentine belt

In the area that i live the automotive shops charge anywhere from $50 To $85 per hour for labor. The tensioner can range also depending on the vehicle. Some where between $35 to $100 or so. It should only take no more than one hour to replace though. Your overall bill should not exceed $185 plus tax. If it is any more than that then I strongly advise you to start asking for an explanation fo this over pricing. Hope this helps. Good luck.
