How do you release the emergency brake on a 1986 Cadillac Deville?

Just wanted to add a great thanks for this! Also the "handle" is relatively thin. So, until you pull it, it wouldn't seem to be sturdy enough. But it is. Thanks again.

It is vacuum operated and there is also a release handle, down next to the brake pedal

Emergency brake is engaged and i cant figure out how to release it? its a 1989 cadillac sedan deville

Hello, Look up under the dash next to the inside of the car, between the foot pedal for the park brake assembly, on the park brake assembly there should be a short lever, it may even be yellow on the end. pull it back toward you, that should release the park brake. The System is suppose to release automatically when you put the car in gear. It works off vacuum, the switch is mounted on top of the steering column and the actuator is mounted on the park brake assembly

No emergency brake release on 2002 deville. Pressing brake does not release it only locks further.

had same car back in 2002 cant remember exactly but there should be a little lever by the hood lever. if not try pressing it all the way down. best solution after that call gm and ask for service dept

Dumb question, How do I release parking brake on 88 DeVille? Thought there would be a lever somewhere but I can't find one Also, I've been told it needs premium gas. Is this true?

You have a car that was built withh all the bells and whistles you know. The emergency parking brake is not so sophisticated at all. Cadillac installed a vacuum pod to the release actuating lever which conjoins to the shift bowl. When you aplly your foot on the brake to shift the emergency brakes will release automaticly. If it will not release, the vacuum pod is at fault & will need a replacement. They are inexpensive at any Cadillac dealerships parts department.

Emergency Brake

What model car? On my Cadillac the problem was the vacuum line to the release valve at the parking brake pedal. The problem can be the vacuum line, the release valve or the vacuum actuator for that release valve. Mine was on the steering column.
