I have a 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3 manual that will start when hot

I have a 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3 manual that will not start & usually only does it when it's hot outside or I have been driving awhile, then I have to let it cool down before it will start again. Then I switch the fuel pump relay with the ac relay then it starts right up. Sometimes mine can just sit in the heat & not be started all day & won't start. If it doesn't start the first time I just switch the fuel pump relay with the ac relay & then it starts up but idles weird, then after about 15 min it clears up. In my opinion they should have had a recall. I love my truck even though I bought it 3 months ago, but I had a 95 & hated to give it up. This problem is the only reson the seller got rid of it. He put brand new coil packs, starter, all plugs & wires & he didn't know what it was. But he said after it cooled down it would start just fine. After I got it & it did it the first time on me, all I did was change the relays around & it started right up. I am not certain on what it is but I have been on several forums & alot of people are having the exact same problems.

I had the same problem with My 1990 F150 300 6cylinder 4x4.....I cahnged all the same things you did, finally I sprayed a can of Gumout through the throttle body and it worked and ran great. Now I add fuel injector cleaner to the gas and a regular clean with the gumout and the problem has'nt come back. Good Luck to you and hope it works!

SOURCE: 2005 ford ranger fuel pump relay gets hot and engine dies

Like Laurie Mack said. It is the inertia switch below the glove box. Here is some funny information. DON'T change the fuel pump first. Interesting fact: I bought the new inertia switch from Ford and the install instructions that came with it said to install the switch in the protected area to the right where the fuses are. It is like Ford knows it was a dumb place to put the inertia switch, but they won't let you know until after you buy a new one. I have read at least 20 other people on here that had the same problem I just had.

What would cause a 1994 Ford Ranger to heat to the L of 'NORMAL' on the gauge after a new thermostat was installed? It has never been past the r/m consistently.

if it is a genuine ford ranger thermostat it should be the same, however if it is an after market one (non genuine ) that may be the problem as thermostats have different "start to open" & "fully open" temperatures......hope this helps......cheers.

What is a 20 amp cb fuse

a 20 amp cb fuse is large fuse usually located in a plastic case in the engine compartment. This fuse is over 1 inch long and I believe the 20 amp is green in color and should say 20 on the top. On a Ranger it is usually located on the Driver side of the engine compartment close to the brake booster.

1994 ford ranger extended cab 6 cyl fuel injected 2 wheel drive automatic

This year of ranger had a few flaws, In one case, a break power booster was robbing the vacumm, you can test this by plugging it off and seeing the differance, but you will have limited brakes. This model year had a problem with a vacuum leak on the manifold. You can check these in many ways, but please don't use starting fluid. The rear of the manifold usually on the drivers side where it seals to the block.
Also, in 2 other cases a cracked head has gave me the same problem. It is caused from a loss of vacuum.
