The distributor firing order on a v-6 is 1-6-5-4-3-2. Looking from the front of the engine with distributor cap in place the #2 distributor tower should be looking at #6 cylinder on engine. On a v-8 the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Looking from the front of engine the #1 distributor tower should be looking at the #8 cylinder on engine. Both distributors turn in a clockwise rotation. Hope this will help you.
Testimonial: "Thank you very much for an excellent explanation. We followed the wires and have the van running like a top. However, we still have the mystery oil use problem. We are using about 1 qt/100MI. No leak to the ground and no blue smoke. Pulled the plugs and they are gray/white and look like a slightly lean mixture. The van has 54000 miles and I am pretty sure that this was the first time that the plugs have been changed. We also changed out the spark plug wires and the original air intake filter. No evidence of oil in the coolant and no evidence of coolant in the oil. The oil does appear black but there is again no evidence in the plugs or on the ground or anywhere in or around the engine compartment. Any recommendations as to how to isolate the high oil usage? Again, Thank you for your assistance. George"
Intake plenum gasket leaks are notorious on magnums, it is on the bottom of the intake manifold

there is no distributor, but the coils should be marked unless they have been replaced. looking from the front, they should be 1-4, 6-3, 2-5 if you want a diagram, google it.

what is the engine displacement?
Thank you for you response. We have worked it out the old fashion way and the van is running like a well oiled clock.
However, we still have the excessive oil usage with no evidence of the usage. we pulled the plugs and they were white and no evidence of oil with 54000 miles on the engine.
One shop said that we need to replace the intake mainfold to stop the oil usage. something about the gasket between the intake pan and the block with the gasket leaking. Have you any knowledge about this issue?
Mahalo,
George
in my experience, i have no knowledge of the intake manifold having oil passages running through it. if there was oil leaking into the intake, you would have grayish/white smoke coming out of the exhaust. the intake manifold routes air and fuel to to combustion chamber in the head. have you checked the condition of the antifreeze? there may be oil leaking into the antifreeze. i will research further on the gasket issue.
