Just bought a 1996 Oldmobile Eighty Eight. We had to replace the battery and now it will not pass inspection. The inspection place is telling us we have to drive it for several 100 miles for the computer to reset. Is this correct and we have done this but it is still failing any ideas?
It is typical after diconnecting the battery/ dead battery, most of the time it takes about 10 miles for the computer to reprogram, or the prom is not reading at the computer, go to a shop and this can be replaced without replacing the complete computer
Yes, these cars have a "learn mode" that takes several miles. But this should not affect emissions.
