1993 SL2: What type of refrigerant does the 1993 Saturn sw2 ...

Most auto parts stores carry Haynes Manuals. You can order them from Haynes if needed. Or...often they are carried in your local library.

I have done Ford and Toyota clutches using these books. Clutch replacement is not hard, just time consuming...And easier if you have a lift.

Note: If like many vehicles, don't forget to replace the engine rear main seal while you have access with the fly wheel off.

You can call Haynes and ask specifically if the book covers the repair you are attempting. I have called them to get more specific wiring diagrams not always provided with the books. Very helpful in providing tech data... I have a Haynes manual for all my vehicles...makes maintenance and repair much easier than researching every I need to do something to my vehicles.

This is a really nasty project. The passenger wheel has to come off as well as the fender liner. You really need a lift to do it properly. This is one I might leave to the dealer or a local place with a proper lift.

Ask at a wrecking yard, these guys know about interchange ability

The R12 spec on the Saturn Threw 93, capacity R-12 2.1 to 2.25 lbs.

On the 94 -98 S-series cars; per the Haynes A/C manual these systems should take 6.5 oz of Ester oil and 24 oz of r134a refrigerant.

The amount of refrigerant required is printed on a label in the engine area. I think its 1.5lbs or 24ozs or two 12oz (net wgt) cans if your system is the R134a.

Thank you for using fixya and just make sure that your have the right system in your Saturn, it's going to be R12 from 1993 and earlier and 1994 will be R134a. Note: at if your not the original owner, your system may have been converted to the R134a.

thermostat is normally one of the higher housings in your cooling system a rounded type of housing dont leave the thermo out

SW1 is a single overhead cam. SW2 is a dual overhead cam both have multi port injection.

mfi = multi port injection
tbi = throttle body injection
the way to tell is look on the intake plenum and see if there is a "carb" sitting there. That's tbi.
