2003 dodge ram 5.7L intermittently has a rough idle and an idle rpm of 500 I think the normal is 650. When I put it in gear the idle picks up and smooths out. Sometimes it will do this in gear and stall or almost stall as if running out of gas.If I turn it off and restart most of the time it doesn't happen. It also throws a O2 sensor code and check engine light which comes on and resets. This has been replaced, no change. Throttle body has been cleaned. Out of ideas. ???

Idling is too slow at 500 rpm.......think about at least 650 rpm to charge the battery and keep up inertia for better take-off power.
Find out how to increase rpm,whether it's a screw-stop adjustment or a timing problem. don-ohio (:^)

pump is in the tank, and from what i've looked at the pump and filter are one in the same, but i'd get under it and look on the fuel line/s to see if there's a filter there, it should look like a metal can.

I have a durango R/T 5.9, but with any car you buy especially like one's with big block V8 any time you turn on the ac your vehicle will lose power as well as consume more fuel hence you vehicle has to idle at a higher RPM.

Idle flare is normal on all newer fuel injected cars. I think maybe you got a little paranoid,probably first spark plug change done by you. Gas milelage is easily explained in 2 ways, one the gov't is making the gas companies put oxygenated fuel into the gas & 2 you could go with a set of bosch oxygen sensors,pick up 15% more gas mileage

Check you (IAC) Idle Air control valve.

This code is most likely not related to the problem, it sounds like you may have picked up some contaminated gasoline, maybe has water in it or other like dirt.
