Transmission should be serviced with new filter and oil every 50k or so. If you missed the one at 50k, and by the dark fluid I'm guessing you did not do it at 100k, you likely need a new transmission.
Its the begining of the ruins of the torque converter. Its stator is letting go before it has enough time to build torque. Pretty soon you'll smell the ATF start to heat up.
You'll get a check engine light and will only be able to drive in 3rd and reverse. Take it to a Transmission repair shop. Why waite to be stranded.
sounds like you are looking at a rebuild. chrysler transmissions need to be adjusted periodically by a qualified tech. if they aren't adjusted properly the results can be catastrophic.
Check the universal joints in the drive shaft to rear axel. 120,000 miles, its time for replacement. Safety hazard exist, check soon. Also transmission filter should have been serviced at 60,000 miles. Its time.
transmission speed sensor needs replacing about 40.oo$ at the dealer sits on the right side of transmission looking from the front of the radiator g s.
One possibility is that the speed sensor is going out. When that happens the computer gets bad information and thus makes bad decisions. When the car goes into 2nd all of the solenoids are actually off. That is so if there is some kind of problem the transmission gets no power, then it still has P, R, N, 2nd. It would be kind of weird, maybe, to see only the 1-2 shift being affected but I can't really think of anything else that could cause that kind of problem.
