Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a ticking noise coming from what I believe to be the crankshaft angle sensor. It goes in where the distributor use to go on the right side of the engine block. Is there anything special about replacing that entire assembly. 2002 jeep grand cherokee laredo, 80,000 miles, 4x4, inline 6 cyl. Thank you Mike

The sensor is on the side of the engine block not on the bell housing. It is run off the camshaft. Parts houses call it a crankshaft angle sensor. Are they wrong? It looks like a distributor base with the sensor on top.

No special rules or tools to replace. If you get a used part you will need to get a spacing shim that sticks to the end to correctly space it to the flexplate. Otherwise a new one should just unbolt and go right back together.

Yes, they and you are wrong michael. The one in the distributor base in the camshaft angle sensor and the one in the bellhousing IS the crankshaft position sensor. This info has come from years of experience AND verified by Alldata and Mitchell on Demand.

I suppose you are correct in the sense of his discription. But that is called a camshaft sensor and if he buys a crankshaft sensor it will do him no good.

Where is the cam position sensor located on a 98 1500 chevy p/u5.7

Camshaft sensor, in your truck it's call distributor pick-up assembly, sit in the distributor assembly, will be the connector with three wire's, to replace distributor will have to come out, before remove distributor out, remove cap and make a mark some where, where the rotor is pointing to, so when you put it back in the rotor points where the mark is at, or you will have a hard the setting it with number one cylinder again.

My 2003 nissan altima engine misses and surges and it comes and goes it is a 4 cyl 2.3

Camshaft and crankshaft sensors are common failures on these vehicles and will give you those symptoms. Camshaft sensor is fairly easy to change (right on top on side of head on drivers side)
Crankshaft sensor is buried on backside of engine way down on the bottom.

Van won't start It is not the cam positon sensor nor the crank position sensor thes hav been replaced. Also there is a code p1345. when my mechanic runs direct power to the fuel pump it fires right up. He...

Thanks for using FixYa. P1345 code is Camshaft to crankshaft correlation fault. I believe the mechanic is saying right. Also you’ll need to check the CMP Sensor, as if that is loose it might cause a variation in the sensor signal. Also it could be due to the Distributor, so you’ll need to check the distributor rotor. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

I have a 1991 chevy truck, I am getting no spark. I have changed the ECM, distributor and coil. still no results. I have no idea of what to do.

check to see if your truck has a crankshaft position sensor, its usually located behind the harmonic balancer or right near there, if the sensor went bad or if the wiring got messed up there will be no signal to the ecm telling the ecm when to send spark to the coil. the crankshaft position sensor is responsible for telling the computer when to fire the spark plugs based on rpm and timing. check the wires on the crankshaft position sensor, if they look fine, replace the sensor, hope this helps!

Crankshaft position sensor location on engine

Not exactly sure what year and model you have, but if it was made before 2001, than the crank position sensor is built into the distributor assembly. If its a 2002 model, than its right above the passenger side drive shaft, where it goes into the trans. Hope this helps.

Its right next to the passenger side drive shaft, where it goes into the transmission. Right above the drive shaft. It s black with green slider inside of the connector and it has 3 wires coming out of it.
