Hi Guys. i just bought a 2004 bmw 318ci the coolant light comes on for a brief period and then goes off- tends to happen on uneven country roads. i checked the coolant level and the float comes up when the reseroir is opened and it s levels are fine. The temperature dial is always half way between the blue and red when driving and the fan doesnt come on....i can only assume that its some level sensor problem. i dont want to bring it to the local bmw/ alfa dealership cause they try to con people into replacing parts which are perfectly fine any help is much appreciated guys thanks
Remove the coolant level sensor and replace it.

more than likely is being caused by a faulty level sensor but first check the connection and fluid level when engine is cold as fluid level will rise when engine warms up
