1995 j30 tune up
Spark plugs are easy to change. You'll need a 5/8" socket.
Follow the spark plug wires from the distributor cap and you will find the spark plugs.
Take one at a time. Be sure to get the spark plug gap from the auto parts dealer (will need a plug gapper) average gap is .35 or .40, but check with you parts dealer first, or if you have a repair manual (CHILTON is best), look it up there as well. This can also be purchased at your local auto parts dealer.
Start by pulling a plug wire off of the distributor cap, and following down (or back) to the plug it's attached to. Pull the wire off the plug, and match it's length to that of a new one (if purchased - recommended).
Once you have matched the correct length wire (new); carefully unthread the old plug out. Be sure to examine the inner tip of the plug (that goes into engine) and see that there is no oil (wet) on it (them).
Do this for each plug and wire. Once all plugs and wires are on, pull the cap off and check the "points" inside the cap. If they look white and/or have deep grooves in them, replace the cap. Chances are, if it look like this, the rotor (sits at top of distributor right under cap) needs replace as well. Examine it to make sure it's not cracked as well, if in good repair. There will be a curved metal edge that is what sparks against the cap when together.
DO NOT START CAR WITH THIS OFF.
It is best to replace these with your tune up, if they (or you) have not (not been) replaced within the past year or two.
