Change clutch I have a 4x4 manual drive tacoma. Is my clutch bad? It work when 4wheel drive is on, but not when it is in regular 2wd. Car goes into gear, but does not advance when you release the clutch.

Sounds like transfer case issue if 4 wheel drive works and 2 wd does not. Clutch slippage would be worse in 4 wheel drive more than 2 wheel drive, more to push.

96 explorer disengages 4wh low but does not engage 2wheel

Does it shift to 4wd high range ? If so then shift to 2wd . What is going on here is the transfer case motor is stopping due to the motor position sensor has gone bad which means that you replace the transfer case motor assembly. But if you wish to make it a 2wd for awhile then remove motor and manually turn shaft . This can be done by raising and supporting rear axle truck in park remove motor turn shaft slowly with pliers and rotating the play in drive shaft. There are stamped markings on back of case showing gear positions..

My 2000 isuzu rodeo only drives on winter mode should i rebuild the transmission

Hello Joe.
please say what works and does not.?
and on what road surface you are on, pavement, dirt, ice? what?
and what does winter mode mean. tell actual shift modes.
and what transmission options you have.

no do not rebuild anything, first is diagnosis.
never guess. or go broke fast,
  • 130-hp, 2.2-liter I-4 (regular gas)
  • 205-hp, 3.2-liter V-6 (regular gas)
  • Transmissions:
  • 5-speed manual w/OD
  • 4-speed automatic w/OD
4x2
4x4
limited slip diff option?
Mode select transmission? option 4x4
this is part time 4wd and is not AWD , all wheel drive.
as such it is not for dry (ice-less) pavement and is for offroad.

so what surface are you driving on. 1st.
then in what mode.
are you messing up and using 4x4 on dry pavement
see here for what happens doing it wrong.
http://www.rubicon-trail.com/4WD101/driveline-bind.html

if you wind it up. the gear shift can lock up.
the solution is 2 ways.
drive to dirt shoulder and move slow and shift back to 2WD.
or if can't do that. (no grass , ice, no dirt)
jack up a front tire. and do same.
this unwinds the system.
then shift to 2wd.
some rare cars have partime system with a hidding slip clutch that
prevents wind up. this car dont.
nor does car have an AWD center differential.
good luck.

4x4 wont engage when shifter is put in all 4wheel positions drives fine in 2wheel drive

Can you supply more information? year and model of vehicle, does it have an actual shifter lever or buttons? and what are all the available options to shift into?

If you have a honest mechanical manual 4x4 that you reach down to the floor and shift into 4x4 with a lever, and 4x4 doesnt work you got problems with your transfer case or you got some bent or missing linkages.

if you have a push button system for 4x4, then you could have a number of problems, bad actuator motor, bad wiring, etc.

I have a 1998 Ford Expedition 4x4 4.6L. Put it in 4wheel drive and it won't disengage. I've pulled all the fuses associated with the 4x4, tried many different approaches of being in neutral, switching...

If that's a model where you push a "4x4" button to engage it then it's
probably a defective motor that engages/disengages your transmission
from the transfer case. It's bolted onto the transfer case just like a
starter is bolted. Yes, the 4x4 light will sometimes mislead you by
going on or off when you push the button.
Ford charges an arm and leg for their replacement but an aftermarket
one runs about $90 from rockauto.com. Make sure you get any electrical
documentation for this motor to show you how to set up the connections
for your particular vehicle......Ray

I have a 2002 Trailblazer. The 4wheel drive service light is on what should I do? The 4wheel drive isn't working at all. Can I continue to drive in 2 wheel High until I get to dealer?

Your fine to drive it on 2wd till you make it to the dealer, but in the mean time check your 4wd fuse. The 4X4 encoder motor is know to blow fuses in cold days and it's a simple fix by replacing a fuse for 35 cent then having a dealer replace it for $65.00 service charge. Good luck and hope ti's a simple fuse that has gone bad, there common to go bad when 4wd is engaged during cold operation.
