Latch for what ? trunk lid ? Door ? The power door locks an the trunk lid are controlled by a electronic module . The luggage compartment lid release switch is a input to the driver door module . The driver door module sends a message over serial data network to the trunk module . If you know nothing about automotive electronics , your best bet would be to take to a qualified repair shop.
look under the cover under the trunk lid, and the motor that pulls the lid down. sometimes the bolts come loose and the motor slides, or a wire is loose on the motor or the fuse is blown. good luck and let me know if I can help more.
I think I already answered this... but there is an amplifier behind the back seat in the trunk area, and there is a fuse on it. Start by replacing that fuse.
I have a 1991 also and when I first got the car, sometimes my trunk would not close. It has the electric closing feature also, Sometimes the latch stays down and doesnt come back up after you open the trunk. On my car, all I do is put my palm on the latch and push down on it and it comes back up every time. Its a quick and easy fix,,see if it works...good luck...
You could try setting release to work manually. I have had the same problem. Take tne motor off set the catch clip at the right height. This should work with no cost.
