There is a vent on some fuel tanks. As gas gets heated, either from the afternoon heat or from driving, it expands. If your tank is full or close to it, the vapors can escape through the filler tube or some have another vent tube near the filler tube
On the top of the fuel pump there is a rubber stopper covering an overflow tube I had to drop the tank to find it but sure enough it was cracked in half. Making my gas dump out. Dodge house did not have one in stock and had to be special ordered. Local auto supply did not have the part either.
Hi there. The reason it only leaks when you turn the car on is because the gas tank is pressurized, but only after the car has had a chance to pressurize the tank (when the car is turned on). To fix this, you need a new gas tank! Alex
The canister is clogged. This is not very common. I would get a used one and it will be done. The canister pulls fumes from the tank and turns them back into raw fuel. If the canister gets clogged than the vacuum hose pulls raw gas and fills up the canister.
this suggests you have a fuel leak in the engine compartment. Possibly a leaking fuel manifold (injection rail), or the rubber line from the fuel tank is leaking where it attaches to the manifold. The fuel line to the cold start injector should also be checked. Rubber hoses on older cars become brittle and as they contract from very cold weather will leak. Turn the key to on for 1 minute but do not start the car. Then check under the hood for a raw fuel wet spot where the leak is.
