I have a 1999 dodge 4x4 with a 5.9 liter automatic. I had to replace the transmission and now it is slipping I have to start off in first then shift it to second and then drive for it to go. I had someone tell me the sensor needed to be replaced but I dont know if that is it or not.

The first thing to do is make sure the fluid level is ok then take it
to a tranny specialist for help if the level is ok

Sounds like the speed sensor on the rear axle.

SOURCE: transmission input speed sensor location

It is located on the front of the transmission. you will see 2 of them one on the left under small transmission lines it is the input then to the right behind the radiator overflow there is the other one. Easiest way to change them is with a 1" deep well socket

It could be the Vehicle Velocity Sensor (VVS) or it could be the Transmission control module (TCM). Check all the wire harness, V.V.S and T.C.M. The best thing to do is to check the truck for any DTC code. Auto Zone scan free of charge and hope we can find out why the transmission is not working properly. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

I had the same code on my 2001 dodge 2500. The truck wouldn't shift from 3-4. I pulled the trans pan off and replaced a broken spring ($2.00). It is behind a thin plate with 3-4 small torq screws. You don't have to remove the valvebody. Only took me 45 minutes to fix.

can be issue with gears or problem with transmission and needs to be rebuilt.
Also get the tranny fluid checked. If it\'s low, then such problems
occurs.

Hi, the problem you are having sounds like the differential needs replacing this can be expensive and hard work but not doing this can cause further damage to your vehicle so its better get it done sooner rather than later.
If on the other hand your only getting a vibration through the steering wheel then this could be that the wheels need balancing.
