Hi from uk could you please verify ? you intend to diy cambelt change ? also has belt been removed already ? or has belt failed/broken ? the belt change is not too difficult to change/renew and is advisable to renew belt and tensioner and the water pump too as it is driven by c/belt to eliminate having to strip down again in near future due to possible pump faiure/leaking ? belt replacement is approx120'000miles or 8 years service ? however if belt has failed ?? then as this engine is what is known as interferance this means there will be piston/s to valves contact resulting in possible valves damage/bent ? the renewal of c/belt etc should take approx 3 hrs if you are confident/tooled and would save $$$$

SOURCE: Describe your 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser timing

Replace the belt at 100k with a new water pump pulley and tensioner. It would not be a bad idea while u r in there to replace the center motor mount. When the mount fails it is a pricey fix not a bad Idea to replace it since you have to remove it to do the belt.

Check your oil dipstick for coolant, or a mucky substance. Your symptoms sound like a blown head gasket.

SOURCE: timing belt replacement on a 2001 pt cruisre

Not for the beginner, I will be doing one on monday. 2001 Twin Cam.

I have been in repair for 30 years, I would not let anyone with less than 5 years experience touch it. This motor has the potential to bend valves if out of time between the cams and crank.

Changing the right side mount too. 10 hours according to the book (all data) and thats for someone that knows how.

2002 pt cruiser wont start after changing timing belt

This is bad. The first question that i have to ask is did you time the engine before changing the belt? That being asked and assuming that your answer is a yes. Did the belt break or are you changing this out because of maintenance?

2002 pt cruiser just turned off on the high way

ok i have seen this problem a lot in the last few years with these cars and every time it is the same thing. Check the timing belt, for some reson there was a bad batch of belts that were put on these cars and the belts start to split apart and alow the car to jump timing buy one or two teeth and it will chut the car down. if the belt is in any way torn or fraid then you have one of the bad belts so you will need to replace it and it will solve your problems..

Nnew engine

yes the cruiser has the same engine as the neon and the town and country van you will have to use your intake and exhaust and some of the sensors but the engine will fit if you put in a used motor replace the timing belt water pump while it is apart it is a heck of alot easier and cheaper at this time
