Go to AudiWorld forms and search for CC issues, there are very detailed testing procedures listed there. Common problems are:
-Control unit above glove box has broken solder joints
-Contacts on the stalk are corroded and need cleaning
-Vacuum leak at bellow, brake vent, clutch vent (or a loose hose)
-Bad pump (my pump vent valve wont stay closed and I am in the process of replacing it)

CHECK CRUISE CONTROL FUSE. IF FUSE GOOD PROBLEM IS IN THE SERVO MOTOR THE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE VACUUM PUMP AND CLUTCH VENT VALVE THE BRAKE VENT VALVE AND VACUUM SIGNAL AMPLIFIER.YOU HAVE TO TAKE CAR TO DEALERSHIP THEY HAVE EQUIPMENT TO FIX IT.

I had a problem on my '98 A6 where the cruise control would work for about 5-10 minutes then stop. The dealer tried to tell me it was a diaphram that would not hold the vacuum. They replaced it ($350) and it still did not work. I took the car home and followed this post at Audi World and it now works great! The dealer wanted $664 to replace the module which is about a 10 minute job to get to behind the glove box (only 5 screws to take out!) If you are the least bit mechanical and have a solder gun, do it yourself and save big bucks!

SOURCE: audi a4 camb timming

Hi,

Audis are not very common in mycountry but from what I can gather:

Themark for the crankshaft gear is on the cover you have to remove inorder to get at the timing belt. The sprocket you may be having troublewith is the intermediate shaft (in front of the water pump) and I don'tbelieve that one matters at all since it doesn't drive any of the cams. The intake cams are driven by a chain off of the exhaust cam shaft soonly the exhaust cam is driven directly by the timing belt.

Additionally, you may benefit from the Audi A4 Service Manual and/or Audi A4 Cabriolet Workshop Manual.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: radio reset code for 1999 audi a4

Should be in your owners manual or in your glove box. If not the dealer will do this for your free of charge. And many honda for one has a place on their website to retrieve this info. It may require you pulling the radio to get the number on it so that they can retrieve this info. But I called a dealor for someone here last week and got them the code.

Open the drivers door with the key. Look on the door for the unlock button and press it. This will unlock all doors and the boot. Use the handle on the boot to open it.

Can't locate where the cruise control module is on 2002 Audi S4.

After a certain model year, the module above the glovebox disappeared and the controls it contained were built into the car's computer. If your cruise in your S4 is failing, it's most likely the combination switch (the stalk on the column) - it fails on virtually every B5-chassis Audi at some point (I'm about to install my third one on my 99 A4). Get that part, install it, and you should be good to go.

CRUISE CONTROL TOTALLY NOT WORKING

It could be a switch failure. The later Audis (including my 99 A4) are known for this, in the cars where the cruise is part of the turn signal stalk. 99% of the time the fix is replacement of the stalk.
