Speedo starts off fine for a couple of miles and then moves round the clock to max speed slowly. Next time out same beginning but it sticks at 65! Any idea? Chris

Sounds like the speedometer is faulty. If the speed sensor were the problem, the odometer would not work correctly, the transmission would not shift correctly, and the check engine light would be on.

start at the beginning, at the tranny to see if spedo drive is working ,this is no easy task you need to DO THIS SAFELY jack up rear wheels in the air, chuck front wheels PLEASE !!! PLEASE take all nessary safety percautions when doing this ,remove cable going to tranny , with 2 people put it in drive ,with foot on brake and let wheels move very slowly you should see speedo cable drive moving , if not that's your problem replace speedo drive but also check the ends of cable, they should fit very good without much loosness into speedo and the drive side going in , most are shaped in a square with slightly rounded corrners,if it works reattach cable to drive and remove cable from back of speedo and see if cable is moving ,if not cable is broken somewhere ,if that works then its your speedo that is broke. i wish you good luck ,hope this helped .

It won't be a cable, as it's impossible for a cable driven speedo to perform this way.
It's an electronic speedo.

Check and/or replace the speedo sensor in the gearbox housing.

if you have a regular state inspection, your last know miles will reflect in your scooters state records.Upon your next inspection it will show the new mileage. If you are worried about reselling your scooter, keep the records for the replacement and mark the miles on it at the time of replacement. The new owner will appreciate your honesty.

Check The ECM (engine control modual) And The TCM Relay, Is your traction control light, service engine light, and check gages light on. If so most likly the TCM Relay Or Component Has Failed, My 06 4.2L Ascender Did the same thing on and off for a while, system lacks power and begins to run hot and chug. The Relay is next to the Starter Relay Under the hood on the drivers side Fuse pannel, its the same relay as the starter one, i just swamped mine out tilll i could get it replaced, just remember, it might make it hard to start after u swap it till you replace teh starter one then. Also check ur spark plugs after the issue is fixed, it fouled a couple of my plugs! Hope this helps.

Thats the limit with the tire speed ratings. The only way to get around it is from a hacker that can disable the speed limiter in the computer. Your car doesnt have the horsepower to go to 5000 rpm in 5th gear.

Speed sensor maybe. Check the connector on the speed sensor and make sure it is plugged in good. if the connection is good then the speed sensor is probably bad

make sure the fluids full, start it then shut off,and immediatly pull the stick as the engine stops. and is the speedo working constant when hot? could be a speedo senor too

check the speed sensor on the gear box or it will be inside the cluster.

Possible defective speedo needle stepper motor. This is the little electric motor that moves the speedo needle and turns the mileage counter.
