1989 Ford Crown 5.0 L. Victoria problem starter stays engaged after engine starts and ignition is in the run or off position check the alternator 3 wire electrical plug & alternator it will short out to ground and cause the starter solenoid switch to stay engaged thus the starter will stay engaged. I have just finished troubleshooting and repaired this problem. Hope this info helps someone.

Solenoid may be sticking. Have someone start the car, if it sticks tap the solenoid with screw driver handle. If that stops the starter, replace the solenoid. If it were me, I wouldn't bother testing it and just replace solenoid.

What will keep my car from starting?

Sounds like a security problem....My bet is on the keys and the remote.. If the dealership did not program the keys correctly the car will not start...Is the security light coming on..? If you still have your old key ...see if it will start the vehicle... if it does...put the old key in and turn on the car...do not start...then withing a few second put the new car in the ignition and turn on ..wait ...then start...and the programming should complete itself. You may have one of those keys that could be removed even with the vehicle running..

2001 s10 will jump start. After it sits, I try to start it, it won't start, but the ignition keeps dinging after I turn it off and take the key out. I can jump start it and the dinging stops.

its sounds like a bad ignition switch-try to jiggle it and see if its stop after you have turned key off- also those dinging sounds are to warn you that you have left something on -usually headlights or maybe even your dome lights which would account for your battery dying

I have a 1989 Isuzu trooper. The motor will turn over but not start sometimes even after you remove the key it continues to turn over

*Turn over. No start.>> Check spark and fuel.
*After remove the key but car still crank. (turn over)
The ignitin switch is stuck>>Check and replace. or ignition wire could be burn that keep touching metal frame.

Good luck

99 dodge durango 5.2 liter I turn the key to start engine and starter keeps turning over, even when I take the keys out. I have to disconect the battery to stop the starter Whats my problem?

The starter solenoid could be stuck in the engage position or the solenoid is energized all of the time due to defective start switch/key cylinder.
