Gas pedal sometimes hard to push, i have replaced

Gas pedal sometimes hard to push, I had gas pedal and linkage replaced.I had transmission flushed, some small improvement in both cases. Dealer says could be transmission, if so, why isn't it consistant. When problem arises is after a dead stop, no other time. 176,500 miles on vehicle and it runs like a top. Is the transmission a likely problem?

Sounds like your brakes are taking too long to disengage. Your problem may not be your gas pedal. If your brakes are sticking it could be holding your acceleration back just a bit until the car gets moving again.

SOURCE: Toyota Camry Automatic Transmission Jerking Shift

Not likely to be the clutch pack as you dont mention slipping wich is the normal sign of overheated or worn clutch bands. Not sure with your vehicle but 2 methods that control the shift severity are engine vacuum or pump pressure inside the auto. so check balls are a possibility. They are spring loaded to open at a set pressure,or close.Could you check to see if its a vacuum controled and if so its a lot easier to fix as the vacuum control should be outside the trans.

SOURCE: My 1991 manual transmission toyota camry won't

Definetly your slave cylinder. Seen it several times on toyotas in my career. I do suggest buying a new slave cylinder rather than trying a rebuild kit. I've had customers that requested a simple rebuild kit in the past, and had them fail within a few months. I know my guys, and I personally rebuilt them correctly, but they still failed. I've never had a customer return with a complaint on a new one. The repair itself is very simple, and if you buy a new one, you should be fine for a good long time.

I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.

SOURCE: driver side door handle (outside) and gas pedal 2000 Camry

Bring the vehicle into the dealer if you have a sticky gas pedal. This is a TOYOTA PROBLEM.
Door handle:
It easy ! You need a philips2_bing.gif and flat screw driver, and a needle nose pliar.
Use flat screw driver and pry out the two or three dust covers for the arm rest screws then use philips and remove the screws. Next use the flat screw driver and pry out the black plastic mirror cover from the inside of the door. Pry out the switch with the flat screw driver and disconnect it. On the side of the door panel just above the striker/loch mechanism is this plastic push pull type of a hold in screw. Use flat screw driver to get it to move a little then pull it out with the needle nose. Depending on which door your doing if you have a map folder in the door there are two more screw to remove on the bottom of the door.
Now the inside door handle is tricky it comes out in TWO pieces. Use philips and get the only hold down screw you see out.( you may have to pry out a little screw cover first) Now the inside door handle cover is removed by placeing the flat screw driver on the rear of the outside of the cover top and on the outside rear bottom to release the tangs that are holding it onto the panel.Pry it out lightly you may have to place the screw driver over the top of the door release button and pry that way. Don't loose your cool its a pain but it will fall out. Once its removed unhook the panel.

Next lift the plastic cover and remove the door handle hooks and levers . Basically use common sense this is easy stuff. There may be two screws from inside of door panel that keep handle in place . Then work handle loose from outside and inside . reverse for installation.

Transmission hard shifting between first an second gear only when this happens the tachometer goes erratic

You have a engine RPM sensor that is not working correctly. Computer thinks you have push gas pedal to the floor and is providing that type of shift. It may be the sensor attached to your gas pedal has worn out.

Gas pedal is very hard to push down and car turns off sometimes while driving. I've had this car for a year and it's never done this. What could be causing it?

A warped throttle blade could cause this or a binding throttle cable or linkage, you must have to figure out which one.

My '99 Plymouth Neon has recently started to shift hard/rough both when going up and down through the gears. It's an automatic transmission. The exhaust pipe recently came apart behind the catalytic...

A common problem on Neons, ( happened to me on my 95 and 97 as well ) is the throttle pressure control linkage at the transmission seizes and causes hard shifting and sometimes your gas pedal feels stiffer as well when pushed to floor, but loose at top. The linkage is located on top of where the shifter linkage attaches to the transmission, basically under your battery tray on drivers side. Remove the battery, and look down under the tray and you should see it. The part you want to concentrate on is the linkage that sits on top. WARNING!! Do not undo nut etc and remove it from the shaft it is attached to or you will end up getting it towed to tranny shop for repairs, as linkage drops down and transmission pan and some internal parts need to be removed to re-attach it. Just leave it alone. That linkage needs to move freely and independent of shifter linkage. You'll have to spray with WD-40 or similar, to work it loose and get it to turn back and forth all the way. (about 90 degree sweep) Once you have it moving freely, apply a good coat of white lithium spray grease to keep it protected and lubricated. This picture may help, even though its a little small. motor1258_10.jpg Once that's freed up, your shifting problems should go away.

Wont shift out of 2nd gear but used to if you would let of the accelerator and let it idle down then it would shift but wont shift at all now

Check cable from throttle linkage to transmission that operates throttle valve on transmission. Not uncommon for the linkage at transmission to be pulled all the way when gas pedal pushed for quick acceleration, or passing, and stay stuck there. Engine off, wheels blocked for safety and/or park brake on, have someone depress gas pedal all the way to the floor slowly, while you watch linkage that cable is attached to on transmission. Then as they release pedal, it should move back in opposite direction. Spray it well, with WD-40 or similar lube and get it moving by hand if necessary to make sure it is fully returning. That may be all it is.

1989 Bronco 5.8 the transmission shift points RPM too high

One of the first things I'd do is check the throttle valve cable that runs from your throttle linkage at side of throttle body, and goes from there down to transmission, and make sure it's moving free and releasing as well when off the gas . Take some penetrating spray like WD-40, and get it moving free, and make sure you look close at linkage where cable attaches at transmission, and spray it well, and get it moving good. Apply emergency brake, and block wheels to be safe, and watch what cable does, as you have someone push gas pedal down to floor slowly and then let up on it. That cable should pull a linkage one way when gas pedal pushed to floor, then return when pedal is let up. After they let it up, see if you can move linkage back any further by hand then it came back on its own, just to see if it's hanging up slightly, which would cause your later shift problem. Keep applying WD-40 and working it until your sure it's as free as it will get, then wipe WD-40 off as much as you can, and apply some "white lithium" spray grease or similar, to help protect it from seizing again. Once that cable and linkages are moving good and free, you will probably notice shifting problem is gone, or at least better, but if not, there are adjustment points on that cable if you look closely. If you do need to adjust, and can't figure it out, get back to us and we'll help. Good Luck.

Wont shift past 2nd

Find your throttle valve cable attached up near cable from throttle pedal ,it's the one that runs down behind toward transmission. With engine off in park, park brake on, Have someone push gas pedal to the floor & observe that cable, to make sure it is retracting properly when pedal released. Now get under & watch where that cable attaches & watch it while doing the same with gas pedal. The lever that it attaches to should move freely & rotate one way when gas pedal pushed, and should return all the way the other way when pedal released. Sometimes that linkage or cable will get seized, and not return fully, which will hold transmission in lower gear. You can use your hand to make sure it is returning all the way if necessary, and if needed, apply penetrating spray to loosen it up, then apply something like white lithium grease to coat it after it's unseized, to prevent repeat in near future.

88 silverado wont shift into 3rd or overdrive

Good place to start, Make sure all cables & linkages at transmission are moving freely, especially kickdown. Spray with penetrating spray if appear stiff. With vehicle off & in park, have someone push gas pedal to floor & you watch linkages at transmission to see what they do, then when gas pedal released slowly, watch again where they return to & see if a little force (by hand) will move them in that direction a little further. If they do appear stiff or slightly seized, that's where you want to spray. then work it until it comes all the way back itself, then try it & see if it's any better.

Tranny pops into neutral if i push on gas pedal hard

Thats what I thought. Locate your shift cables on drivers side where they attach to transmission on top. The linkages they are attached to are very prone to seizing up because of the location of them. Your throttle valve cable is there to on the very top of that linkage. You need to get lots of penetrating spray (like WD-40) on there and keep working them until they move freely. Eventually you'll be able to move that top part by hand easily, turn it back & forth until it loosens up real good. Once you get them moving freely, give them a good coat of spray grease like with lithium grease. that should last quite a while. You may be able to get at it better by removing battery & tray if it's on that side still & in the way of getting to it. Have you had any hard downshifting or hanging up & revving high before it goes in to next gear when driving?

97 Ram 1500 over revving until hitting 45 mpm

It sounds more like a cable or linkage sticking, and yes it is transmission related, sort of, just because of the high RPM before shifting. Spray all your cables good with lube, at throttle linkage, and get under and look where cable & linkages are at side of transmission, and spray them good too, and work them back & forth, to try & loosen them up. Truck shut off & in park when under it eh.!
Then work shifter back & forth, gas pedal to floor & up etc, to try & loosen things up. That may just cure your problem.
