Failed emissions hc high

First I recommend changing spark plugs, air filter, and change the oil & filter. If these are dirty or fouled up it will kill your millage and help to fail smog.
You can reduce both NOX and CO emmissions by adding denatured alcohol to the gas tank. Run it down to a bit under 1/4 tank and add 1 1/2 gallons. It makes the engine run a bit rough, but really clean.
If you still fgail SMOG then you need a new catalytic converter.
I used to "trick" my 86' with alcohol, but just rebuilt the engine so I put a new Cat on it. It passed emissions with WELL BELLOW numbers.

Good luck.

Have a2005 deville with the code po741 cant pass ca. smog need to what dose it takes to fix this problem

Hi,

Code P0741 = Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off. This relates to your transmission only and has nothing to do with Exhaust emmissions.

If failed smog test, there must be an issue within your emmission system, e.g. sensors etc

You will need to have your codes read again, or have your vehicle properly inspected.

My 7.3 diesel did not pass smog because of code p1396 what does this mean?...

P1396 Glow plug monitor fault, bank #2 One or more glow plugs failed or circuit fault

You either have one or more bad glow plugs, a disconnected harness under the valve cover, or you have a problem with the glow plug module. This code is only for californial emmissions trucks, which are the only ones with glow plug modules.

Problems getting car smoged. the engine light keeps going on and off.

mcdevito75 here, BEST BET let your local shop run a scan on your cars computer, 1 or more sensors that control engine emmissions may be bad, if so you"d never pass smog inspection. Sorry.

Brake booster

Emmision is the fumes produced by your exhaust. Do a tune up on the car and have it checked for exhaust leaks. Spark plugs, Wires, oil change if needed, O2 sensor, Air filter and such thing as this should put it back into order. Which state is this? If it is california then you might want a professional opinion because they no more about smog canisters and stuff likethat. But tune up should do it.
